  3. Let me put it this way.

If you want to consider mainstream as people who care enough about games to read websites for games, yeah Zelda's mainstream.

If you want to talk real mainstream, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Minecraft, Candy Crush Saga, GTA, Angry Birds, Disney Infinity, Skylanders, Skyrim, etc. would all be far more prominent and easily recognizable before modern Zelda. People would 'remember' Zelda as the NES/SNES games, or the show, maybe Ocarina. They won't know what Majora's Mask is (or that Nintendo continues to make new Zelda games).

I don't think there's anything crazy about this outlook. Try it yourselves. Try talking to people you know who aren't stupid-invested on games like us and see if they can tell you any memories of Majora, or can even name any Zelda game post-Ocarina. It's not as common knowledge as you'd think.

My mother plays Zelda. How many gaming sites do you think she visits?

Umm, who the hell cares? Do you seriously think Nintendo is banking on a Majora's Mask remake to sell 20 million units and turn into the next COD?

I don't care, but this all started with me saying, good for them, but it doesn't 'print money' like diehard Zelda fans think because *the games* aren't culturally relevant anymore. Which in turn went down this path - that such an outlook is Just Plain Wrong. That the conclusion had no sense, even though I'm basing it on the interactions I've had with people, and what is considered mainstream/relevant about games today.

If I could have it my way, modern Zelda *games* would be the kind that could be as relevant as CoD or Minecraft. Maybe not in sales, but definitely in mindshare. I don't think the modern releases are, not from my own desire for it to be that way but because of the knowledge I see other people have for the series post-Ocarina.

  10. I think a lot of people who didn't give a fuck about the N64 will be happy to play this. Like me!
