But hey, if you want to extrapolate, sure most covers suck. Most of the covers played at bars suck. You learning to play rock n roll by playing other people's songs, sucks.
And they tipple quad suck compared to the original. Which the film makers had a chance to pay royalties for instead since they already paid for the modern band to cover it.
I really can't remember the last time I was in a bar and heard a cover of sweet home Alabama and thought to myself "man, what a wonderful cover. This is as good or better than the original"
But even if above was what I was talking about, which it wasn't, it has nothing to do with people learning to play anything. You have to suck before you don't suck, so Josh's original question is kind of pointless. No, it doesn't null out rock n roll. The two things aren't related.

Here's the problem with you arguing, you have the Trump disease where you think you know everything and create an argument based on what you think you know rather than actually looking into things.
In this example, Panic at the Disco has been doing this cover of Bohemian for years, they didn't just cover it because they were paid for this movie, they've been doing it.
And yes, once again, covers such as this one that only try to imitate the song are never as good as the original, as my argument was covers that do something new are the only ones that end up being any good, and even those are usually crap.

Remember that Thermals tour where they closed with a straight cover of My Name is Jonas and it fucking killed? Sometimes it's pretty cool to see a band play a song they like without trying to reinvent it.
That doesn't even apply here. We're talking about liking songs. There aren't any facts or history or hidden diaries on the horizon that I haven't made time to read.
I think most covers suck and you enjoy when people turn popular pop songs into country songs. Whooptyshit. There isn't any kind of Trumpian double downing there.

When I was a kid it seemed like audiences got way more into movies than they do these days. Seeing Aliens in the theater was an amazing experience not only because it was a great movie, but because the audience I saw it with was batshit insane, laughing, cheering, and screaming at the best parts. It was so much fun and incredibly memorable.
