What Are You Playing? (Winter, 2014-15)

Silent Debuggers was a interesting game. The corridors inspired the same awe as Phantasy Star for me but a few levels in tedium hit.

Hard Reset: Extended Edition- Great FPS that goes outside the mold. Want a little less cut-scene and a lot more blasting? This is it. HR's cyberpunk story is a nice break from the B&B military themes, and the upgrade system is nice (you have 10 possible weapons wth 5 running on ammo, and the other 5 on energy, instead of requiring specialized rounds). Plenty of destructible objects give chances for environmental kills. Some weapons even have an altfire that stuns, but needs a while before it can be used again. The mortar's AF can be used to "deadlock" enemies ala Singularity. Even the shotgun has stun shells. Regen health? Forget it, but the armor will fix itself when you quit taking damage for a bit.

But the world outside the city puts a lot of shit into question. Like, I have hard time believing that yufi's village was ever a great threat to shinra or midgar. Or that any group was. And yet they have a port with a Paris gun.

The whole world is on its last legs, like if METEOR or whatever wasn't going to end it all, it would've eventually rattled to pieces anyway. Even Midgar was a huge dump. Wutai wasn't a threat to Shinra, and that's the point. The whole nation of Definitely Not Japan has been stripped of its powers and brought down to nothing by Not the US, and now it's just kind of waiting to die like the rest of the world.

i know that was a bad idea and i'm not going to get into an argument about it, but the game is a lot better than *i* remember it being nearly 18 years ago. it's as believable as any game where half a dozen or so people successfully go up against an empire and can take the time to breed hundreds of generations of giant birds to race and ride across the ocean, all while the world is going to end pretty soon

he was the COOLEST character when i was 16.

Every character in the game seems built for 'will a teenager draw this on lined paper a million times'.

Yes. And Nomura was the first of all them! His art is so shitty in FFVII! I still don't like it, but man were the official art character designs terrible.

Also i just remembered that in the dig site of FFVII you clearly see a jet fighter and the remains of a dragon, proving Final Fantasy VII takes place after Drakengard Ending E and probably before Nier.

It also has that weird, underwater armor from Eva! Can it take place in both worlds?!?
