I don't think it's chance this is also the scene he removed his helmet and we saw the real him in his nerdy glory either.

Rey herself is shown to be very adept at hand to hand on Jakku handily beating thugs trying to steal BB and besting Finn. That's all the exposition I needed along w the light sabre mind fuck flashback.

He was highly trained. My point was that Skywalker had a ton of training and Darth Vader destroyed him in their first encounter. Rey had ZERO training and dueled Ren to a draw or better. It didn't bother me that much but if one is going analyze the shit out of Rogue One then we should take TFA down the same road and hold it to the same standards.

Vader took a light saber blow to his right shoulder from Luke (ESB) and then he proceeded to disarm Luke with the saber in his left hand like it was time to shut him down.

Rey knew nothing of her force powers, yet she was able to stalemate a force push from Kylo?

This article makes little mention of his training other than it was incomplete because Snoke turned him & he killed the others.

Snoke even mentions in TFA Ren needs to "finish his training" and questions Rens commitment. Doesn't seem like he's "done" and could be considered an amateur by Jedi standards.

Unless they explain or show more of his past that's what I'll assume since his entire characterization is about a kid not living up to his family legacy.

Rey's been living hard since she was 5. Her progress seemed quick, sure, but the lightsabre win over a horribly crippled Ren wasnt the implausible part.

Wait, what? That's only true in comparison to Rey. Luke got the Jedi crash course - a few minutes of Force 101 with Obi-Wan in his house and on the Falcon and then like a week with Yoda. Those Jedi Kindergarten kids Anakin slaughtered in Sith probably had more training than Luke.

  5. I love how people are reading into the plot of The Force Awakens like it's actually this deep, intricately woven tapestry in an attempt to explain away the plot holes and lazy writing. I guarantee you, it's not. Whatever you see on the surface is exactly what it is, and not a damn thing more.

Vader got whacked in his big armored shoulder pad. He seemed OK.

It's a typical JJ Abrams movie. A lot of flash and you're always left saying WTF?!

Vader got whacked in his big armored shoulder pad. He seemed OK.
He let out a grunt, after feeling the pain in his arm. It pissed him off, and he proceeded to cut off a pole before moving on to slice Luke's hand off.

  9. It lit a fire under his ass. Up until that point he was just toying with Luke.
