Yeah, the AL West has been pretty crazy for the past 6 weeks. The Rangers started out hot in the beginning of July, fizzled out a couple of weeks later and then went on a winning streak for the past couple of weeks. Meanwhile, the Angels were on a streak for several weeks in July, and then just went on a crazy losing streak. Houston has just sort of hung in there, through it all.
Are you surprised by Houston? Last year, when they still had Bo Porter at the helm, and they were dummying the Jays and their chances at a playoff spot, I got the impression that this team was turning it around.
I'm not surprised by Houston. They've led the AL West for most of the season and dropped to second for a week or 2 during the Angels and Rangers hot streak in early July. Unlike the Rangers and Angels, Houston hasn't had any sort of major losing streak. Houston is just teasing the Angels and Rangers at the chance to overtake them, but they've hung it out long enough to survive the hot streaks the other 2 teams went through.
It'll be interesting to see how the Rangers play down the stretch. The return of Holland, plus having Napoli and Moreland back give me a lot of hope going forward.
