He's welcome to use that slogan next election, btw. I think it's pretty good.

It happens all the time. Get angry about it.

  8. I'm glad that reporter had a modicum of balls on her. We're talking about CNN here, not MSNBC or Fox News, but the lost child of cable news who hasn't known which direction to go for a decade or how to retain viewers. The fact she had a voice is surprising.

Race relations can basically go two ways From here: everyone grows up, the government makes restitution for slavery and gives AA incentives to be productive members of society. Education grants are there; more blacks per capita enrolled in college than whites did last year. But in employment, Affirmative Action has to happen until black unemployment drops from the rate of double that of whites which it has been for decades. And companies who do not match these new hire numbers must be penalized to make it happen. On top of that, give African Americans an income tax rate of 0% for a century. I don't see how anyone could argue against it. If you have a job, you are less likely to deal drugs, pimp, rob, or murder as you have something at stake, a reason to obey the law and keep your ass clean. It's no coincidence those crimes I mentioned are 2-4x the national average, while unemployment for all AA is also 2x the national average... and among young black men ages 16-29 it is 5x! (I should be citing this but you can find these numbers at the FBI & jobs data reports)

The other option is we give up. We accept crime is a part of African Anerican culture and we stop enforcing laws in black neighborhoods and watch them crumble to Monrovia levels while the Al Sharptons & Jessie Jacksons make money off press coverage and speeches.

  9. Unrelated but related: I was going to a bud's place last Thursday. She lives on the first floor of a two-storey house. I always get a bit lost when I go there at night (they never have their porch lights on). So I walked by the house, realized my mistake, then walked back onto the property. I crossed paths with a white dude walking his big dog. From behind me I heard him shout, "Where are you going?" I just assumed his cute dog was following me. Then he yelled it again, and then again, louder, adding, "Hey you!" I turn around and the guy wants to know what I'm doing. I assume I'm at the wrong house, so I ask if the address is correct. He says yes. "What are you doing here? I live here." he says. Without wondering why I owe this stranger any response, I just say, "I'm visiting my friends." He replies, "Well, I don't know you, so I was wondering why you were on my property." (As I later learned, this guy just rents the upstairs apartment. He does not own the property). As we're walking in it dawns on me what happenped. And I ask him, "So you just randomly asked me what I was doing here on because you didn't know who I was? Do you know everyone one of your roommates' friends?" He just says, "I just don't know you and you're at my house." He starts becomes angry at my implication. But what else am I supposed to think? Never in my life have I been interrogated by any of my friends neighbours. So transparent, so bullshit. I couldn't have appeared any less "threatening." I'm wearing glasses, have a satchel/book bag, a grocery bag full of chips because we're going to watch a movie.

This sorta thing doesn't happen to me often, but it makes me feel a certain kind of terrible when it does. It's never naked. It's always subtle. And you just know.

The whole B-More coverage reminded me of this.

After that kid that came up to my apartment, I'd probably thought you were out looking for a dick to suck.
