edit: That includes the mayor's office in the state's largest city, Birmingham, which is as close as Alabama gets to the "urban" I stated. He also happens to be black.

Meh. Im not gonna sit here and pretend that a coroner's policy preferences matter. And Alabama Democrats differ in terms of policy from other Democrats, just as, say New Jersey Republicans differ from South Carolina Republicans.

And maybe the GOP would get some more of the black vote if they stopped directly appealing to racists and bigots.

I don't disagree but I can't think of any other cause and effect things that aren't related to the stuff you already listed. Or are you referring to the quality of education/households/media coverage? I definitely think it's a vicious cycle, though.

All of them for almost 50 years? At some point it's not a micro issue anymore.

I don't think any of that changes that the people of Baltimore aren't asking for anything to change. Hell, how many protestors and/or rioters even bother to vote?

edit: Let's also not forget that when you go all the way back to the 1960s, it was the Republicans who passed all of the civil rights legislation over Robert Byrd's filibuster and somewhat miraculously got Lyndon Johnson, who had voted against it his whole career, to sign it.

Stupid is as stupid does. I'm registered R, but vote whichever way I need to. I sure as shit didn't vote for O'Malley, or Hogan for that matter.

i guess you take me for an idiot. After the CRA the parties flipped on race. Everyone knows that. Dixiecrats are Republicans today. LBJ even said it would happen when he signed the legislation. It is what it is.

  6. Let's not forget that if you go back even further, "Republicans" were the ones separating church from state. And let's not forget that when you go back even further, a "Republican" was a radical "liberal" who opposed the monarchy and privatization.

It's almost like words change and what a party was called 75+ years ago has no bearing on what's happening today! Unless you think Issa and Cruz would have read Byron and sympathized with the French Revolution.

I was making the point that it goes back that far.

But not that far, making all this pointless.

Yes. Traditionally the elected officials of the south are racist regardless of party. The school they graduated from means more than party.

Example: olé miss produces an abundance of racist

Why do they keep winning these elections? Where are the worthwhile Republican candidates?

What has the Republican party done for (and I said "done for", not "given to") urban minority voters to compel them to vote for their party? Also, in direct response to your answer to this question - why hasn't that been enough to prevent said Democrats from being elected for such decades?
