Big Trouble in Little China Remake

I don't hold Big Trouble in Little China in the same high regard as a lot of people do...

I don't either, BUT. There's just certain movies where that perfect mix of actors, dialog, atmosphere, and era can't be replicated, and I feel like this is one of them.
You're never going to do what Kurt did in that role, especially the Rock, so why even try?

But the whole point of the movie was that Jack Burton was a swaggering blowhard who thought he was the hero but in reality was actually the bumbling sidekick to the far more competent Asian dude. The Rock just being The Rock wouldn't be the same.

Like Shido...um, Mollie said, it was a unique formula that really can't be replicated.

Unfortunately, Carpenter's writing/directing skills totally shit the bed in his later years. He gets a lifetime pass for The Thing and Escape from NY, however.

They live was quite respectable in it's own way.

The Holy Trinity is Escape From New York, Big Trouble in Little China, & They Live. They Live is the embodiment of punk horror. Truly classic American fiction.

There was some crap in between like Starman. And The Thing is top horror.
