Can't do coke off a cluttered table

  3. There's a perfectly good 'giant circular mirror' joke you missed.

There's a CLD-97 that popped up on Craigslist on Raleigh, which is probably the best two sided player ever built. I don't think I can make it to Raleigh anytime soon

That CLD-97 got taken off Craigslist. Then popped up again yesterday. I messaged the guy and tomorrow it will be mine!

  7. Nice!

A friend messaged me the other day offering up a stack of LDs and two players for the price of 'pick 'em up'. No idea what player models, but I hope one's a flipper.

Yay! I'm pretty well read on models now, if it's anything from the 90s I can probably give you a heads up about how good the hardware is.

    Woo! She's a beaut!

Yeah, crap picture, I'm a terrible photographer. I tried it out with Back to the Future 2 and a few scenes from Star Trek First Contact. BttF is a super clean movie and looked outstanding, but it looked outstanding on my D504 as well. Where this player really shined was with First Contact. That movie is pretty grainy, which looked rough on my other players. On the new one it looked much, much better.

While I was picking it up the seller said he had a box of Hong Kong discs, no idea what any of them were. I've never watched much HK cinema, so I have no clue if any of the movies were any good, or if they even had English subtitles in them. I offered the dude 20 extra bucks and took them. I figured out what the titles were and ran the list by some buds who watch this stuff, then tested them to see what had English subs so I could understand them and came up with 12 good movies (out of 30.) I do wish I could have talked to the original owner of this lot, I bet a dude who bought a $2000 top of the line player back in the day to exclusively watch Hong Kong flicks is probably an interesting guy.

  10. That's nuts. I always wonder about that, like when you find a lot of specific things at a thrift store or whatever - who was this dude that obsessively collected ______? I love collections though, that HK lot sounds awesome.
