Thread: 2015 NFL Season Thread

  1. My point though is that any QB can succeed when placed in the correct environment, and any QB can fail too. Yes the West Coast Offense was a system, and yes some really marginal QBs (Grbac, Bono, McNabb, Garcia) managed to get some good numbers while playing in it, especially with the 49ers, but every offense is a system. And every offense relies on more than the QB doing his job. It relies on the offensive coordinator calling the right plays, it relies on the offensive line doing it's job, and it relies on the skill players doing whatever they've been asked to do.

Take yesterday's 49er game. That was a system wide failure, it wasn't just Kap. When you have an offensive line that is mostly new trying to gel together under a new coach you're basically an expansion team. And they are playing like it. Mistakes everywhere, QB running for his life, making stupid throws. I don't care who was playing QB yesterday in that game they would have been killed in behind that line yesterday.

Guys like Elway, Aikman, Manning, and Luck would have had success almost anywhere. You'd have to dream up a system to screw them up, though I think Pep Hamilton might be trying. That's wholly different than some third or sixth round pick from a major program who scouts clearly didn't think was that talented. Those guys need a lot more help, and their coaches deserve the vast majority of the credit, as evidenced by how easy they were to replace.

  3. Chiefs haven't lost at Lambeau yet and the Chiefs ended the Packers undefeated run. They are probably going to intercept Rodgers twice and win again.

I don't think the first part of your statement is completely true. If Manning went to San Diego instead of Indianapolis I don't know that he turns into "Peyton". Aikman was a punching bag until he got a team built around him. Luck got placed in a situation where the team was already built.

They were all #1 overall picks. None of them walked onto a juggernaut.

Aikman was on a team that was 1-15 the previous season. Michael Irvin may have been the only other skilled player on that team, after Hershall Walker was traded.

This just in. Jarod Allen is now a Carolina Panther. Chicago got an unconditional 6th round pick for him. Where were the Cowboys on trying to get him?!

Yeah, that's terrible. You can never have enough pass rush.

At least he didn't go to NE. They seem to make all the good trades for veterans.

  8. 3 games in and Chicago quits. Nice.

  9. Trade deadline is week 4. Pretty sure they know they are shit this year. Blow it up and do what you can for the future.

The Cowboys don't have much of any pass rush at the moment. They just waived Davon Coleman, even though they are hurting for depth on the D-line. I hope they have a replacement for him!
