Shovel Knight can't carry Super Meat Boy's shoes, it's doesn't do enough on it's own. It's fun, but a little bland.

I don't think Shovel Knight and Super Meat Boy have much to do with each other, but I agree.

Shovel Knight is to Duck Tales, as SMB is to Super Mario Bros. I think they both carry forth something else's legacy directly, I just think Super Meat Boy had more to say about that instead of just trying to do the same sort of thing again. It took an idea and refined it into something else instead of just repeating.

I feel like Mario Maker's 'who died where' notifications were learned directly from the Super Meat Boy death replays.
