Thread: The Trump Presidency

  1. While it's no more productive than arjuing with him or getting trolled by doc, playing Etrian V has proven to be far more enjoyable than either. You should give it a try. We all want change so long as we aren't the ones having to do so.

  2. p.s. if someone said 50 lives could be saved if games were banned, I'd read more.

  3. TNL is the best portable game ever, though.

If I can convince buttcheeks that a yam is different than a gun despite so many similarities (both occupy space in not just one or two but all three dimensions for starters), then I can finally put it in the Completion Thread.

    and kill with it.

If black families were eating high capacity magazines on Christmas, yes, I would ask that they consider a different holiday treat.

This is not one of your better analogies.
No way man. People are killed by other people's eating habits all the time.

Refined sugar kills more people in this country than guns. And there is a plethora of cultural sweet foods used to bond families together that are full of it. Some studies have found that the weight parents put on year from year comes from the weak of thanksgiving and Christmas. They never get it off and it builds, eventually killing them.

And again , you're ignoring a huge swath of gun culture that do not use guns to shoot people. For them, it is not designed to kill people. Maybe animals. Maybe cans. But not people.

  6. Stop comparing personal diets with being shot. You don’t choose to get shot.

Of course, Australia has a totally different history. They were a British colony, built in a wild land using forced labor, that displaced and oppressed an indigenous population. Totally different.
New Zealand has many levels of gun licensing endorsed and controlled under law. New Zealand has also seen reduced gun violence and no mass shootings have occurred since ‘97. This is actually a very good control group to the Aussie buyback program. The buyback program may have helped Australia, or it may have had little causal links. I’m not pro gun tbh, but I have a hard time rationalizing my position as anything but fear based reactionism.

A lot stands to reason. But the data shows a mish-mash of problems in the way. I often think the reason violence in the US is so much higher is because American culture revolves so much around force. Things other people would brush off as a minor insult get overblown. Everything seems more hostile. That’s why I think changing the way the media covers these things might help the culture overall — it’s a simpler fix that can be easily piloted for a set term to test its effectiveness.

    Now what.
Of course you would. I’ve yet to see a social problem you wouldn’t solve by enforcing controls at the state level. I think you have some good ideas here, but your solutions are all the same.

Longer wait times like ARBM seems like a great solution that gives everyone what they want.

Most people don't choose to die by poor health brought on by high sugar intake. Even if they know sugar is bad, they aren't making a conscious choice to murder themselves with it.

And more so, none of us choose for them to die by it, even though most of us are complicit in perpetuating a holidays and seasons that revolve around gorging ourselves.

  9. This has gotten real dumb, real quick.
    Boo, Hiss.

  10. People cant/won't control themselves. Sky fairy won't do it either. Doesn't leave a lot of options. Now please remind me, who would institute/ enforce the longer wait times?

I'm not sure if it's willful, I don't know, assholism on his part or not but IP keeps bringing up shit that will kill you that you do yourself as if that's comparable to what we're discussing. I guess to an engineer's mind dead is dead, but there is a significance difference between me eating yams to death and me going to school or a concerts and being murdered. It's the whole murder part of it I guess. There is also a difference between that and gang members shooting each other over drug territory. Wanna make strides to fix that? Legalize drugs. But then you're presented with another problem. I'm told a lot of people turn to running drugs because it's that or some bullshit minimum wage job. So how do we employee a large Urban population now that we've taken away the only manner of business the know. It's really no different than the Jews. Everyone bitches about them controlling the finance world when that was all they were allowed to do to support themselves.
