Thread: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series

  1. That’s cool.

You should keep an eye on EVGA’s website. Product is starting to show up, like the 3070 for around $719. I would have bought that, had I known EVGA would start having cards available.

  2. Thanks, is there that big of a diff between non-TI and TI (say 3070)?

  3. About 5-10 fps at 1080p, depending on the game, and 3-5 in 4K. The Ti basically will have about 5% more shader cores and 2 extra core for Ray Tracing.

Basically, the 3070 is about that same distance from my 3060 Ti, as the 3060 is from my Ti. +5-7% to -5-7%. A 3070 would be 10-14% faster than the 3060 and the 3070 Ti would be 15-20% faster.

  4. Thanks, all these cards seem very close together but the price differences are material.

  5. LOL! So true. The big jump is when you hit the 80 series.

My 2080 Super is pretty close to the 3060 Ti. I just needed a GPU that could handle 4K for the living room. I would have got the plain 3080, if prices weren't so insane. It just so happens that I got a notice from EVGA a week after I got this card for a fairly decent price. People were selling them for in excess of $750 on a good day.

  6. I dropped by MicroCenter today. I've been checking out their website weekly, to see how the GPU stocks are. They constantly had a least 30 different models of the RTX 3000 series cards on-site every week. This week, they had a total of 37, with a majority being the RTX 3080 and 3080 Ti. They had an MSI 3080 which had a price drop of $399 (down to $1,016) That's a good sign. We may see the 3080 Ti below $900 by the end of summer, or even sooner. There were even 25 of 3090 Tis and about 10 3090s, that were all selling above $1,800. The scalpers aren't buying them up and consumers appear to be holding out until the prices come down.

  7. I've been thinking about doing a new build soon, my PC even if not used for gaming much, is still getting really dated. That cards are starting to be available and that they're trending towards MSRP gives me hope that early next year I might actually be able to do it.

  8. Yeah, I hit the four year mark on my build, so there's some incentive to upgrade soon. It's still hanging in, with a an i5 8600K, and an RTX 2070, but it's starting to show its age in some high end VR games and limit pushing RTX games like Cyberpunk.

I will probably hold out for the RTC 40X0 cards, and either get one of those or a good price drop/used 3080. I have a bunch of stuff I can carry over, NVMe drives and 32 GB RAM and all that, so I can get away with a pretty minimalist parts list.

  9. The 4000 series will start out with the high end cards and then trickle down to the more mainstream stuff near the very end of the year. I think that they’ll be hard to get this year and certainly out on the high end stuff. I’ve heard that the 4080 will consume 650 watts and the 4090 somewhere around 900 watts. I’m not trading out my 850 watt PSUs just so I can have the latest and greatest. I have a 3060 Ti as a holdover for my 4k OLED in the living room. It replaced my 5 year old 1080 Classified, which could run Forza Horizon at 4k with high settings. There’s no way I could run Cyberpunk in 4k, even if I turn off RT. I pretty much have to run that game in 1440p with DLSS in performance mode. I’d like to get a 3080 Ti, or the base 3090, if I can get them for under $1,200. I plan on moving the 3060 Ti into my 1440p rig, which will replace the 2080 Super in that rig. Maybe I can flip it for about $500 and I can get another $300 for the 1080.

    .

I just thought about this. You can drop a 9900k into your motherboard, if you have one with a Z370 chipset. That CPU is still a beast. Your board has to have a pretty decent VRM, but it’ll work.
