Thread: Namco vs. SEGA

  1. dunno, i always though Klonoa was a disgrace to Shigeru Yokoyama and Klonoa Works. i actually thought about registering that screen name about a week before he came on the boards just incase someone that sucked registered it, but i was lazy, and i do regret not doing it very much.

you guys are too waaay too predictable. i knew this thread was coming a few hours before i even made the Crisis Zone thread. anyways, Andy787 is one of the many reasons i try not to bring up Namco here. and im the ass? whatever, luckily im not stupid enough to take a Sega Vs Anything thread at TNL seriously for the obvious reasons.

IMO, here's the way it is.
    Klonoa > Sonic
gameplay, level design, shit even story. Klonoa shits all over Sonic

    Ridge Racer > AM2
although i do love AM2 racers very very much, no racing game has topped R4 yet

Time Crisis, Crisis Zone, Point Blank > Virtua Cop, HotD, Confidential Mission
love HotD, but yeah, i think everyone agrees there's no competetion here.

Tekken, Soul Calibur > Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers
i know better then to compare any of these games, but as far as fun goes, i have more fun with the Namco ones. yeah, but each one of those games is love or hate so...

    PacMan, and Galaga. nuff said.

sure Sega does everything first, but Namco just does everything better.

  3. well hey dude, atleast you're not saying you're the biggest Klonoa fan here. cause i hold that title.

  4. Even though Namco had the balls to do what no other publisher would (publish smashing drive in america), my vote goes to Sega.

  5. Sega. I love Ridge Racer and Soul Calibur, but Sega has too many great games (not to mention the hardware). Its hard to pick one over the other though. I think everyone here loves them both (I know I do).

  6. I really hope you're joking. It turns out Namco existed long before 1993. They made the first full-color videogame. They made fucking Pac-man, for Christ's sake. How about Dig Dug? SEGA didn't really become a force in the arcades until the mid-80s.
No, I'm not joking. The poll isn't Sega vs Namco 20 years ago, it's Sega vs Namco and I stand by my comments. Namco's somewhat recent offerings have been pretty darn ho-hum for me.

  7. From the 80s through to the earlier part of the 90s - Namco

From the later part of the 16-bit era on - Sega

Though, in terms of mascot platformers: Klonoa > Sonic

By looking at your various posts, it makes one wonder, on what do you ACTUALLY LIKE???

That knocks down Namco a few rungs, by itself.

IIRC the first Japanese-developed arcade game was a Pong clone designed by Taito.

That boxing game may have been the first original Japanese-developed arcade game, however.
