Thread: Hard Boiled + The Killer

  1. Hard Boiled + The Killer

Probably 2 of the most wanted DVDs in my collection. Sadly, they insainly high priced Criterio editions stopped them from ever coming close to reaching my collection. And I never thought that the cheaper versions that are out was worth my time (plus it just wen out of print) . However, there might be middle ground for all us poorer people.

I just read on Amazon hat on Sept. 3rd Buena Vista Home Vid is releasing their versions. Hopefully it will be pretty decent and worth the pick up. Anybody else looking forward to this?

  2. Both are wonderful films. I seen both more than 20 times each, they are in my all time favorite list, I have tshirts of both

John Woo created 2 action masterpieces, and at this time there are still no action film that can beat Killer or Harboiled in the action and tension department. Both had awesome performances by Chow Yun Fat, had amazing action scenes, human drama, and even more action

If you are an action fan, or just like fun movies, to own it to yourself to watch these 2 films.

I also missed on Criterion editions of both, and now they are going for insane prices, but last year, when I was moving my collection to dvd, I got 2 disk set of Fox Lorber/Winstar release of Killer and Harboiled, and those are quite good disks.

  3. How expensive are they, I bought both when they came out. The killer is one of my favorite movies

Holly shit, there is one on eBay going for $150 and the reserve isn\'t even met on \"The Killer\"... glad I got mine when I did

  4. I got the cheapo box set...didn't know there was a criterion edition. What's it got?

Not to get too far off topic but I think I'm in the Minority when I say I liked the Replacement Killers. Yep that one, seen it twice.

  6. Replacement Killers is awesome film on its own I love its style, Chow and Sorvino were both excellent in it, action scenes kicked ass, it had great and stylish direction. One of the few US made films that came close to capturing the spirit and style of HK film.

I have regular dvd, but need to get SP Edition one, with extra scenes, Chow Goes to Hollywood special and other extras

Did ya see that other Chow yun Fat Mark Whalberg flick? I forgot what it was called I liked it though.

  8. Nah nah nah, don't buy the Buena Vista one.

Here's a clip from that site

"One of Hong Kong's most beloved films, "The Killer" is in Disney's hands (among, of course, many other titles). Amazon is now listing this for pre-order with a running time of 104 minutes. This indicates a high probability that Disney's version is the cut, R-rated version. Reliable sources tell us that John Woo is furious that Disney wouldn't talk to him about releasing the film uncut. No word yet on dubs, although we are somewhat skeptical on that front also."

Buy the cheapos or somehow do Criterion.. all those extras but don't support such butchering.

I think it was called "The Protector." It was an ok flick, but Replacement Killers was WAY better. The Protector is more "american."

  10. It was called The Corruptor. It was an ok film, but more of the cop drama than the action film. But CHow was excellent as usual, and it was really sad to see him die Few action scenes it had were ok though, and I liked the Fukinese dragons, and few crazy Chow moments in it. Walberg was also ok, in his role.

It had one kick ass car chase though, and if you have dvd you have to watch the uncut version - it was very violent and brutal, as many people gets gun down during the chase. Too bad it was cut from the film
