Good to see I'm not alone in Mario64 dissapointment![]()
Mario 64- Crap camera + average gameplay + uber hype = crap
Zelda: OoT- This is what finally made me lose faith in Nintendo franchizes. It didn't feel like Zelda at all.
Crazy Taxi 2- The mini games are great, but nothing else is.
Mega Man X2+- None of them came anywhere close to the original.
Capcom vs. SNK- It wasn't nearly as good as either companies fighters, and it's even worse when compared to the spectacular NGPC title.

I dont really give a fig about too many games anymore, so Im not approaching this thread with the fire I would have in the past. But here are some titles that seriously dissapointed me:
Shenmue - Most of you know the deal. But I will say that the concept remains damn intriguing to me, Ill probably give Shenmue II a try on Xbox. As long as it doesnt put me to sleep I will probably like it.![]()
Jet Set Radio Future - I loved JGR to death but I was bummed out on this game. It was just not nearly as exciting for as much fun as the first one. I liked the idea of the more open-ended design, but the fact that the entire game basically shuts down when you fight enemies (so that is the sole point at that moment) is not good. It takes away all the tension the first one had. Also, removing the analog stick motions hurt IMO. They stripped down the game too much. If you ask me, the music wasn't that good either. The character designs were as good as ever, the graphics were amazingly gorgeous, but it just was not as good of a game. Very, very dissapointing, especially for somebody like me who loved the original so much!
Stretch Panic - Damn. This was a terrible game. The graphics were lousy (some neat character designs but thats it), the control was imprecise and well, there was no depth to the game. It was just a bunch of crappy platform levels and 12 boss fights. Bad news.
Black & White - Black & White's design was bold, and I loved how it sort of went beyond the medium. It really gave you a ton of power and you could use it for good or evil. Amazing design work there if you ask me. But this was only in the beginning... the rest of the game sort of trailed off and got to be pretty mediocre by the 2nd or 3rd world. Very dissapointing considering what this game could've been.
It pains me to see certain games on this list (like Panzer Dragoon? Here?!?), but I honestly am not disappointed in the games I play/own. I guess that's why I find most of my posts here are in defending certain games and such. I just know what I like, only buy what I know I'll like, and I don't let hype (from magazines or otherwise) get the best of me.
There are, however, games that I'm not into despite the hype for them, like Tony Hawk, SSX, all those THQ WWF games, and SHUMPS (*prepares for a beatdowm*). There are even games that I enjoyed before, and that time has changed my opinion on, like both FF VII and VIII (good to bad, if you had any doubts
). But nope, no disappointing games.
Play on Playaz....
Since when do shmups receive hype?Originally posted by SonofdonCD

BTW, it's SHMUP, not "shump."

Hype here, I guess.
SonofdonCD, I used to not like shooters much myself, but I had to find out what was so great about them on my own and now it's a large portion of what I play.
Sonic\'s levels had a heavy emphasis on speed, especially if you were to go for the emblems.Originally posted by Ragnarok the Red
Sonic Adventure - a Sonic game where Sonic almost never gets to hit full speed.
Right, you realize what the C(amera) buttons are for, don\'t you? And average compared to what, the other 3D platformers of the time?Originally posted by Atariguy

My god! I can barely even read that!
Practice the enter key... it starts a new line.
And I don't see how someone could've not been blown away by Mario 64, unless they didn't start playing games until 3D platformers were everywhere... even then, M64 is probably the best one out there.
HA! HA! I AM USING THE INTERNET!!1

Exactly, the people who play Mario 64 now, might as well not have played it at all. It was 3D gaming at its best at the time (no other game came close to Mario 64).
