I am waiting for SP Edition dvd due this November. It supposed to be loaded with extras, have 4 dvds, 60 minutes of deleted footage, and R rated cut of the film.
Just a reminder. The dvd allows you to make out much more detail in many of the scenes. In Moria, what looked like just cave walls is now revealed to have intricate carvings and details. I can't wait for the expanded dvd which will probably have an even better visual quality since it'll be on two discs (plus DTS sound).

No, no, no. 30 extra minutes, and just the same rating. Your right about the four discs, plus it'll have at least 7 hours of real extras (not that Fox movie special crap but documentary style stuff).

I rented this DVD because I had to see the movie again RIGHT NOW. I was pretty impressed by the visuals and such. Stuff I thought was grainy in theaters looked really good on DVD. But I'll buy the 4 DVD box set when it comes out.

I got it! Excellent, excellent, excellent. I'll be getting the four disc as well, as I wanted to have both the theater version and the extended version.
bastard of the new world order.
I don't care too much about all the extra extras, and I'm not super picky about all the tech specs. I just want the film. A buddy of mine is a Tolkein freak, so I'll check out the extended @ his pad (he's got a better home theater set-up than me anyways).
This 2-discer is perfect for me. What a beautiful film.

Well, 30 minutes worth of scenes is still pretty good
I will definately rent it, or buy an uses copy in a few months![]()
I watched it on my parents big screen HDTV with the surround sound setup. A nice experience. Indeed.
