i don't think they'd dare try something like that.. it would just piss off way more people than they want to..
but you're right.. it's hard to predict these things.. a switch might be a good idea..
Not during the beta period, but better safe than sorry come official launch, right? I wouldn't be happy paying $50 then MS nukes my account during a mass mod detection operation or something.

MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!
The fact that they would even consider doing that to someone who did something completely legal with a piece of their property is exactly the reason that I will likely do nothing more than thumb my nose at Xbox Live. If they want to punish me for acquiring the region free console I was promised during development, they can go fuck themselves.Originally posted by EThugg

That was my attitude before, but I have.... mellowed.... or gone nuts... moreso... ummm.... bye.
Oh yea, I remember why I mellowed! Unofficial software running on XBL means cheating and hacking are much easier. If they kill mod users, they eliminate that threat (mostly).
Bah. Oh well. I never planned to take multiple consoles online, and M$ doesn't have Resident Evil.Originally posted by EThugg

Well, the Terms of Use has a section on this very thing:
Xbox Live may only be accessed with an unmodified, except for Microsoft authorized repairs and upgrades, Xbox video game console. Any attempt to disassemble, decompile, create derivative works of, reverse engineer, modify, further sublicense, distribute or use for other purposes either the hardware or software of this system, is strictly prohibited and may result in termination of your account and the pursuit of other legal remedies by Microsoft. Any attempt to disassemble, decompile, create derivative works of, reverse engineer, modify, further sublicense, distribute or use for other purposes either the hardware or software of this system, is strictly prohibited and may result in termination of your account and the pursuit of other legal remedies by Microsoft. Microsoft may take any legal action it deems appropriate against users who violate Microsoft's systems or network security, and such users may also incur criminal and/or civil liability.
Microsoft reserves complete and sole discretion with respect to the operation of Xbox Live. Microsoft may, among other things: (a) restrict or limit access to Xbox Live; (b) upgrade, modify, withdraw, suspend, or discontinue any functionality or feature of Xbox Live or any game from time to time without notice, which may involve the automatic download of related software directly to your Xbox video game console, and which software may prevent your Xbox from accessing Xbox Live. Microsoft has no obligation to maintain any content or services, and has no responsibility or liability for the deletion, loss, corruption or failure to store any messages, software or other information or content maintained or transmitted by or through Xbox Live.
Take that as you will.

Well, as Ethugg said, modded Xboxes on Live are an invitation for trouble, from a game perspective. Cheaters, hackers, etc. could have a ball. The thought of someone being able to hit my system and wipe the HD and all my game saves, music, etc. while I'm trying to kill them in MechAssault is a little unnerving (and since XBL can operate as P2P, in addtion to client/server, this is a possibilty).
The only reason I can see to mod an Xbox right now is to run Linux, and if you do that, I doubt you could use it for games as well. That, or you're a die hard horse racing sim player, or want N.U.D.E.
I wish MS would simplify their legal speak. I know they need to cover their asses, but I'm in I.T. I'm used to this. Joe Blow off the street might think they're signing away their firstborn with the legalese in the Terms of Use contract.![]()
