Ethugg, yes we can make it friends only. When you create a match in MotoGP you can set how many of the 16 slots are public, and how many are friends only.
Rustyridnwthprid, if you can make or buy a long CAT5 cable, you should be ok. You should see little to no degradation of signal until you go longer than 100 meters (~300 ft) of cable. Working at a telecommunications company, there's left over spindles of cable everywhere. Just had to hack out a cable.
So now, when I'm not playing Live from my bedroom, I can go repelling with my long-ass cable.
Wireless is an option, but very expensive. You'll need a router (which isn't a bad idea in general, if you want to have your PC and Xbox plugged in at the same time) which supports wireless (~$150 to $200), and a wireless ethernet bridge (another $150). Wireless will degrade your signal somewhat, especially your upload, which is critical to Live. Minimum upload speed supported by XBL is 64K. Most cable companies offer 128K minimum. DSL, I'm not so sure about.
Nigel, one sucky thing about MechAssault: only 8 players online.
16 would have been nice, but I guess the engine couldn't support it.
Oh, and will no one beat my score on the shooter mini-game? I'm ranked 47 nationwide, people! And I suck!
Never under any circumstance scrutinize the mastication orifice of a gratuitous herbivorous quadruped.
