Thread: Educate me about Shadowman and Shadowman 2

  1. Educate me about Shadowman and Shadowman 2

    These games seem like they'd be right up my alley (long, spooky, exploration adventures), but for some reason, I've been holding back.

    Are they really bad Tomb Raider/Soul Reaver clones? Or are they substantial enough to stand on their own? They don't get a lot of talk, so that could mean they're of *meh* quality or they're sleepers.

    Any of you had experience first-hand?

  2. The story is amazing, as I dig the whole Hatian Voodoo mythos, but the controll is a bit...er...crap.

  4. I'll admit the voice acting and story was top notch but I couldn't see a damn thing in the first one and the controls were pretty sub par. I know ECM loved the game but it didn't hold my interest at all because of it's faults.

  5. I only played the first one on DC. As the others have said, the controls are on the sketchy side, making the combat a little awkward. At the same time, the game has a very unique and creepy atmosphere, along with a funky story accompanied by solid voice acting. You may want to give this one chance. Just don't expect to be blown away (although I recall being rather impressed by more than a few of the levels).

    You can easily find the DC rev for less than $10 (new), so I'd say give it try.

    The first game is damn good on the DC.

    Unfortunately 2econd Coming is sitting in my pile of shame right now so I can't comment.

    Sneak 'n Peek was a pretty interesting game on the 2600 BTW. I actually had some fun playing that game in days past. There are many worse games thatn that.

  7. Thanks for the feedback, everyone...I also think that Acclaim's alleged sucky status is pretty undeserved.

    Think I'll pick up Shadowman on the cheap - I'm quite interested in voodoo myself, in fact.

  8. Yeah, You do that Bio. I havent played Shadow Man 2 yet, I rented it last night to try(post impressions later), but original SH on DC was pretty cool game. I like dark story, atmosphere, it was pretty action packed, and I didnt think that controlls were that bad. Voice acting was also pretty good, and it had some creepy locations to visit, and was pretty surreal.

  9. I really liked Shadowman 1 on the 64 and DC. I still haven't gotten around to trying number 2 though.

  10. Shadowman is awesome, especially on the Dreamcast since it has a smoother framerate, plus it supports VGA so it looks extra good. haven't played Shadowman 2 though so I can't say.
