Thread: Star Ocean 3 *official*

  1. I've played through SO2 in the past and enjoyed it a lot although there was some frustrating moments in the game. I'm currently (slowly) hacking my way through SO1 which is definately outdated at this point but other then graphics it reminds me of SO2 a lot, crafting system, emotion system and battle system are almost alike. From what I've heard in this thread it seems like I'd really like SO3 but unfortunately I no longer have a PS2. I definately want to pick this up as soon as I get the chance though, I've been looking for another good RPG with an "epic" feel.

  2. Man, I must be one of the only people who thought this game was long, drawn out, and had way too many "sit around and watch the story and do nothing for long periods at a time".

I mean, I like story and all, but I actually want to DO something every once in awhile.

I should trudge through it to see if it gets better, I was only 10 hours in and just lost interest.

  3. At 80 hours, I finally completed SO3, and beaten all of the optional bosses after trekking through that god-awful 100+ floor dungeon ..

A word about the optional bosses:

It's all about defense. You need VERY high defense to even stand a chance of defeating any of them. The quickest way I found to boost ATK and DEF ratings was to refine 8 boots of prowess 3 times each to get the stats to add +30% DEF and ATK, then combining them to the most powerful weapon you can find that DOESN'T have any pre-existing mods. (I'm pretty sure there's a more efficient way of boosting DEF, but this is what worked for me). After that, get Valiant armors and refine them to multiply the +20 defense 8 times. As for levels, you need to be as close to 255 as possible (the max). At lvl 255, my Fayt had 4,970 DEF.

You need at least 3,500 DEF when you go against Lenneth (Valkyrie), so you can survive her "Nibelung Valesti" (sp?) attack. Not only does it do an absolute insane amount of damage, but it also covers the ENTIRE battle field, except maybe the most tiniest amount of the outer edge. Suffice to say, your party WILL get hit by this. If your party members have 3500+ defense, it will do very little damage, and sometimes no damage at all. She may occasionally paralyse or confuse you, but since she's doing very little/no damage, it isn't a concern

Ethereal Queen....Well, I had no problem at all with her. She can be interrupted out of her attacks quite easily, so I never seen her "big attack". The only attack she was able to get me with a few times is "Bind Field", which holds you in stasis for a few seconds. Even then, the other party members were able to keep her busy until it wore off.

Freya...now she was difficult at first, until I changed strategy. You MUST have 5,000+ DEF before you stand a chance against her. All of her attacks are pretty mild, except for her special attack, "Ether Strike". If you have anywhere less than 5,000 DEF, this attack will instantly annihalate anyone it hits with one blast, which will most likely be your entire party. Even with Fayt's defense at 4,970, and HP at 60,000+, it killed him with one hit. I kept dying, until I decided to try controlling Sophia and casting Protection on Fayt and Cliff. Her attack went from doing 80,000+ damage to 0, so I pretty much spent the battle casting Protection while letting the CPU control have at her. It was boring, but it worked. The battlefield is very large, and while Ether Strike has a wide effect field, it's nowhere as big as Nibelung Valesti, so I was able to stay in the corner with Sophia and cast protect. The only thing she was able to do was occasionally cast Lightning Strike on Sophia wich did a few thousand HP damage, which is easily healed. The item you get for beating Freya is something that lets you add 1,000 ATK to a weapon, which is pretty useless since you just defeated the toughest boss.

  4. Ok... right now I'm nearing the end battle... and I'm wondering.. can I get Nel back for the love of god? I don't want to go and raise up Adray :/ I also don't give a damn about Roger so whatever happened to him, fine. But I want mah Nel back damnit!

Here's the deal. If you let Peppita join you, then you're out of luck. If you refused her, though, you can go back and talk to Nel in her room in Aquaria. Act like you don't have time to stay for long, and she'll become interested in why. Then she'll join you. But I'm afraid that if you let Peppita join you'd better be happy without Nel.

But if you wanted my opinion, a party of Fayt, Albel and Sophia is best. Or take out Albel for Cliff. Me? Fayt, Cliff and Albel. Aw yeah.

  6. Well, I picked it up, and I'm liking it, but I do have a gripe with it. I've been reading the dictionary entries as they come up, and boy is it spoiler heavy. The entry for Maria about her and Fate's heritage was especially bad. I hadn't even reached Aquaria at the point I read it, much less met the woman in person. I almost stopped playing the game because of it. That's some poor editing.

  7. Damnit you have to chose between Peppita and Nel?! Those bastards!

Well, it's either Peppita or one of the two characters you leave behind on Elicoor II. I personally ditched Roger and Peppita. Much more worth it to have Nel and Albel.

  9. First off: The last boss kicked my ass several times.. I am very very happy with this turn of events. It's been a long time since a boss has killed me. I only got the Defeat Luther trophy though... Someone tell me how I kept reading places that the last boss was Lucifer? I was thinking It would be.. in which would have been awesome. This is not true and I don't know how close the translation is between those that name and the actual.. but I mean come on.

Second: My sister came down right after I finished the fight to tell me to come up for my dad's birthday. I said alright be right up... what was that like 40 minutes of ending?! Sweet jesus. I got the Fayt alone ending v.v.

Time for some maze of tribulations.

  10. Lucifer was his name in the original Japanese version. They probably changed it to avoid any problems stateside.

Since you got the Fayt alone ending, prepare for an interesting time at the Urssa cave temple.
