Thread: Jackie Chan is: The Accidental Spy

  1. Jackie Chan is: The Accidental Spy

The DVD drops this coming Tuesday. Anyone see it? I watched it and thought it was one of his better movies. The copywrite is 2000, so it's pretty new. Some quality Chan moments. Jumping around, sword fighits, escapes, naked fight scene (a daring move that was really well filmed). The story was pretty cool, but some of the editing was a little wonky. Recommended.

I hate how bare-bones his discs are though.

  2. I have HK dvd of it, the film was in theaters Xmas of 2000, and then was realeased on dvd, last summmer. It took it almost a year to reach US, and now, after rescoring, dubbing(I assume its a dubbed version), cutting, it going to be released.

The film itself is pretty good. Jackie stars as Sport quipment salesman, who finds out that his father was a North Korean spy, and so his adventure starts. One of the better Chan films of late, especially his US efforts, and fun to watch.

I guess I was a little disappointed with it. It's a decent film, but I want to see more of his really long fights where he incorporates the environment more--like is Miracles and Project A days...sadly those days are long gone for him. But yeah, it is definitely one of his better recent efforts...

I have HK DVD as well and would love to see some behind-the-scenes stuff.

  4. As long as he shows the best stunts, It will be enjoyable.

I thought really long fights were missing too, which was a shame. What was there, was quite good though. I'm pretty sure I saw Miracles...I remember it being pretty slow, but it got crazy in the last half. Is that the one with the finale with the big ass ropes? I don't want to think that "those says are long gone for him." Breaks my heart to think about it . Last one with a long fight scene that I can recall was the finale in Who Am I?

Yeah, it moves slower than most of Chan's others, but has some amazing fights. Chan directed Miracles or Mr. Canton and Lady Rose (which is a remake of an old Frank Capra film called "Pocketful of Miracles," I believe) and you can really see that his camera work improved a lot from this film. They released in domestically by Columbia/Tristar with the uncut Cantonese version, but it's really hard to find...

Gorgeous was more recent and had a couple really great fights--though it isn't his usual type of film (more comedy, very Cantonese comedy, at that, then his other ones)...but yeah for the most part Who Am I? is the last of his really good action films...

I would like to see him get back to directing himself--next to Sammo Hung, I don't think any other director can really do as good a job...

He basically needs to go back to HK and forget all this Hollywood crap and get back to it...

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing him direct a HK film with some of the new talent there, such as Nick Tse, Ekin Cheng, Stephen Fung, etc...

Or team back up with Yuen Biao and Sammo to make a film like Dragon's Forever again...

  7. Well, Jackie is finishing up Highbibgers in HK now, and it will come out this Xmas there, its directed by Gordon Chan, and will be more of supernatural adventure/comedy. He will also make Titanium Rain in HK, big budgeted sci-fi adventure.

  8. Is "Tuxedo" (I think that's the name of it) with Jennifer Love Hewitt suppost to be any good? And I think he finished Highbinders (which has some good buzz behind it) because he's doing Shanghi Knights now.

I've only seen the previews and wasn't very impressed by them. In most of his American made movies, his fights have a certain rhythm to them--like he doesn't even use his own stuntteam or maybe he just slows things down--it's like the same fight in every one of his American films--I hope he can correct this--maybe he's just running out of ideas, but I can't believe that...

The energy and finesse just isn't there...but I guess he is almost 50 now, so it's his right to take some time and just do some easy movies...

  10. Jackie Chan is lame.
