    Seven

Wow, I have nothing more to say than wow. This was the most rewarding movies to watch that I have ever watched. It was, simply put, spectacular. I'm 7 years behind in my movies, but it still was amazing. The killings were perhaps the most innovative deaths I've ever seen, and the story had an amazing plot twist at the end. I only have one problem with this movie...

Provided killing himself was purposeful (as it was), he killed 8 people. I was expecting Doe to not be killed, because he had already caused 7 deaths, making his the 8th. If your clueless to the extra death, I'm talking about the baby, I had figured that was the extra, which I think had no sin based upon it's death. Anyone have an explanation for the symbolism represented in the baby's death? I can't find it. Another thing I liked about this movie, it left you thinking about the future of Mills.

It's not usual I buy a dvd to add to my collection after I've seen it, but this movie needs a spot in my colelction. If anyone could answer my question regarding the symbolism, it would be greatly appreciated.

  2. One of my favourite movies, easily my favourite of the genre.

You got me stumped on that one. Perhaps it was an accident, or they didn't see the baby as "alive" yet.

  3. Great, great movie. I'm glad you finally watched it.

  4. Yeah, Great film indeed. Awesome since of style, direction. Kevin Spacey was excelent as a villian in it.

As for the baby death, Its possible that John Doe didnt count a killing a baby as death, since it wasnt really alive yet, in sence not born yet. He was guilty of the Sin of Envy and Jealousy, and thus was punished, the way he set it up.

  5. It wasn't just the baby whose death had no sin associated with it...Pitt's wife didn't have a sin associated with her death either. Doe only perpetrated five deaths in relation to five of the deadly sins. The sixth was his own, for jealousy, and the seventh was Pitt, for wrath. Pitt, I'm sure, would have gotten the death penalty for murdering Doe, thus completing the cycle.

Well then, why did Doe kill Pitt's wife and child? Simple. Everyone Doe had killed up until that point had purpotrated a deadly sin on a physical level. The glutton, the whore, the sloth...all of them had purpotrated a deadly sin on a tangable level. Though he was jealous, he haden't done anything physically to lock him into his jealousy...so he killed Pitt's wife and unborn child. It was required that he do that in order for his plan to be completed. They were innocent, and Doe chose to purpotrate his sin against them.

    Hope that helps.

  6. A great movie. If you haven't noticed, they didn't mention Kevin Spacey's name in beginning credits nor the trailers. Great idea to keep the anonimity of the villian. The movie put such a great sense of tension the last 10 minutes... Somerset's reaction... his sense of urgency.... Classic.

Mills:"I remember us knocking on your door."
    Doe:"I remember breaking your face."

Bought the DVD today, looks like I'll be having fun with this one. Amazing amount of extra content, including 1 extra ending + a 3rd ending only in storyboard stages. Also includes many deleted scenes, along with 4 feature length commentaries. Just wish I had a DVD drive to view some of this, but the entire 2cd disc is humongous and filled with all sorts of goodies making me feel happy I spent the money I was going to use for my router for ps2 to get it.. =)
