Thread: The TNL Pile of Shame Warpact *updated*

  1. Alright, I'm back in the saddle. Unfortunately I've bought some new games, but I'm almost back to where I was.

Bought: Shinobi, Kessen, Zone of the Enders

Finished: Kessen, Zone of the Enders

    That leaves:

    Suikoden III
    Shinobi
    Metroid Prime
    Dynasty Tactics

I'm going to try and get through Suikoden III before Xenosaga comes out next week, and I'm almost done Shinobi. Of course, I'm going to get the OoT disc tomorrow, which'll set me back a bit, but at least I'm treading water.

  2. You can take 3 off my list.

Rhapsody of Zephyr (DC)- Sold it.

Dodonpachi (PSone)- Finally starting to understand the game and getting better after putting some time in.

The Kaiten (PSone)- Thought it was ok playing by myself, but 2P is a lot of fun. Now I enjoy it quite a bit.

I've probably got more to add as well by now, but I'm keeping my mouth shut.

edit- Kaneda: If you get into it, there's a Super Star Soldier score thread over at TFP Challenge that could use some love.

  3. 8:19:50 is all R-Type Delta is gonna get out of me. This crap has got to go (a little harsh, but you know).

    -1

  4. Lunar 2: Eternal Blue (PSX) - The spirit of humanity prevaisl! Cheesy, cheesy final battle with too much horrible dialogue, a 3-4 parter that lasted about an hour. The ending wasn't spectacular, but it made me feel better than the sour note I was expecting. Now I have to finish the Sega CD version. Lunar 1 is better.

  5. how can shmup's be on a pile of shame - score challenges never finish

  6. Current totals and list can be found here (updated location): http://sevenforce.ayashii.com/shame.html

9 titles completed, 31 on the pile.

  7. Fully updated. I like your stack track jiji, interesting to look over, much like Omegas.

edit: some commentary on your stack

Play Jumping Flash! It's short, easy, and really fun There isn't anything out there quite like JF1 or 2. The second was more of the same, but I still remember playing the first one early in the psx days and going 'oooh, ahh'. I suspect the sparkling glow of nostalgia is rather softening what must be some horrendously plain polygons.

"(01/18/03) - removed Majora's Mask. Ick. Bleh. I don't think I'll ever be going back to that one. -_- " - Amen to THAT. Yugh. Blech. I echo your sentiments. I had it on my stack and DID finish it. Totally wasn't worth it. Made me hate the game even more. That goron area at the very end of the game filled me BERSERK rage :P

Record of Lodoss War - that's on my stack also. I do enjoy it when I play it, but it's a pretty long game. Slogging through all those enemies takes a good while, and it's so easy to get sidetracked hunting for mithril and runes to engrave I suspect it will be removed from my pile at some point.

Armored Core 2 and Klonoa 2 - I finished both of those. AC2 was surprisingly neat, K2 was surprisingly not. I will say that last area in K2 was pretty darn neat. I picked up AC2: AA, which was a tactical error, as AC3 came out shortly after that. Now I've got AA and not much desire to play it, since AC3 is out - gaming paralysis!

"Front Mission 3 - second loop, Alisa's scenario" - I haven't even finished the first path I'm about 2/3rds of the way through, but that was like... a year or two ago. It's hard to pick up again, since I have yet to have the urge to play it.

I was about to get back into it last night, but it seems it doesn't run on epsxe, so I'll have to deal with my old, creaky modded PSX. The game is a lot of fun though...maybe I'll play some more tonight.

Yeah, Majora was especially disappointing after just having played Ocarina. Seriously, what were they thinking? I can't even consider Majora a Zelda game...it's too different (and irritating).

This one is just an eventuality for me...it's the kind of game that's really addictive to me, so once I sit down with it, I shouldn't have any trouble finishing it off. I think I must be about halfway through, hopefully...

I enjoyed AC2 for about six hours, then something else came up and took my attention away from it. I tried going back recently, but I think Phantom Crash has spoiled me for mecha games...AC's control scheme and lack of characters bug me a lot more than they used to. I might be able to keep going on it sometime, though.

I played a few battles the other day, and I think I may have grown out of this game. I loved it to pieces when I played it right when it came out, but now the battles seem too straightforward and easy, and the weapon/mecha upgrades seem too linear. -_- Spoiled again by Phantom Crash, I guess (even though, yeah, that's action while this is strategy). Though I did get into Tactics Ogre quite a bit a few months ago, so that might have hurt my opinion as well. I haven't lost enough hope to take it off my list yet...but we'll see.

    Thanks for the comments.

The whole thing took me 56 hours, but I maxed out almost everything and did all the sidequests. But I just couldn't put it down. I went through all of that in like 10 days, foregoing sleep.

  10. Weekend update! Post yer progress!

I finished Devil May Cry 2 a while back, which I mentioned before, but it wasn't on my stack, so no progress for me. That goes for Unreal 2 as well, which I finished the other night. Final verdict - meh for gameplay, holy bejeebus for graphics in later levels. The levels themselves are so impressive its actually worth playing through just to see them and go 'damn, that's neat'.

Still have half of Orta to finish, but I'm actually sort of hesitant to play it, because it's such a wonderful experience, I don't want it to end

And my stack is doomed for awhile now. I just picked up Dark Cloud 2 and Breath of Fire.

Breath of Fire is REALLY cool, but I can see how it's only going to appeal to certain people, due to the game mechanics. I love em personally, and the music is really great. Story is pretty interesting so far, and that's coming from someone who is both jaded with and sick of japanese rpg plots. I'm sure they'll prove me wrong, but it's cool so far

Dark Cloud 2 started with clowns... which is like, the worst way to begin anything, ever I think I'm scarred. I'll push my way out of the first area or two at some point, and see if the game grabs me more. The first one started out pretty bland, maybe it's a trait of their designer.

And as for my stack? *sigh* At least I'm maintaining an even keel, as everything I'm picking up, I'm finishing. But next week, Xenosaga gets added to the triple stack of rpgs, and more critically, MOO3, which may end any hope of resuming pile depletion for some months yet...

I did sell Kingdom Hearts (just couldn't get into it, the Disney/Square thing weirded me out badly), and Quantum Redshift (after the speed wore off, so did the gameplay), so -2 for me. 27 remaining!
