Thread: The TNL Pile of Shame Warpact *updated*

It's just one of those games where a bunch of things happen, and I think "hey, this is pretty cool". But then once I put it down I just have no motivation to pick it up again. I don't like the character designs at all, and so much of the experience is on rails - 25 mintues of cutscenes (which are for the most part enjoyable), followed by 15 minutes of wandering through bland hallways.

The battles aren't bad, and they're fairly tough. But I'm not enjoying this anywhere near as much as I did Suikoden III so far.

Here I just keep cringing at the sight of the garter-and-stocking clad females, wandering wearily through the bland environments, and snoring through the reasonably well written story (a plus, I must say, the voices and writing have been pretty decent, but for some reason, they aren't catching me).
    My pile of shame:
    Xenosaga
    Xenogears (45% done)
    Legend of Zelda GCN

18 hours into Xenosaga with just the last stage left to go. The garters and stockings aren't that bad in comparison to the 2 equipable swimsuits... [add your own punchline here]. After an amazing Feb '03, I foresee another upcoming game drought. My pile o' shame won't last for long.

Edit: I like Xenosaga better than Xenogears. Don't let people scare you away for those who want to get it. It's true that the aimless wandering between battles & cutscenes is the main drawback.

Wait a minute - how long is this game? I've read reviews that say 60-80, and some people saying 40 or so. But you're near the end at 18 hours??

Yes, um, well it goes a lot faster with the GS.

It doesn't feel to far off from a non-stop 18 hr anime movie this way.

    Gameshark?

Actually, that's not such a bad idea here...the story is what I picked the game up for anyway.

Is there a code to replace Chaos with somebody I don't want to Raging Demon?

I think it's even more painful because I liked Xenogears so much, and I think the combat and leveling systems are (or could be?) pretty elegant, but instead they just feel bolted on to the extended OAV that is Xenosaga. +garters (and Momo, gag me with a spork)

Yeah, I bought XS for the story, too. After trudging through Venus & Braves in 53 hours, I wanted to quicken this one up since Zelda is coming out tonight (the store said 7:30PM exactly).

hmm, I don't know what you mean by raging demon, but there's a code to unlock all party members at all times. Haven't tried it, though. I just maxed all stats & increased my cash. Most tech attacks inflict 5000-9999 damage.

Raging Demon is Akuma's nasty "make the screen go all black and beat the crap out of the guy" move in Street Fighter. It's something I'd like to perform myself on Chaos.

That's the other thing...every time they subtly position the camera so you're looking up Momo's skirt I just start to feel like a creep for playing it.

  9. Xenogears is on hold for the moment, because I was sick of only being able to play Suikoden 3 once a week. I lent my Ps for a PS2, and I'm now on my second chapter 3 in S3. Decided to pick up Castlevania: HOD after not being interested for awhile, and I'm at the second castle now. Not a bad week overall.

  10. Nothing for me this week.

I did finish something yesterday, but just to keep some structure in this program, I won't list it until the end of this week.
