Why do artists have a hard time accurately portraying a character's race? I have come to expect it from Japanese artists but even the Western artists do it too.
Does this guy look like someone from ancient China?
Heh. Well, I know that art styles vary, but I've been wondering about this now and again when it especially came to Ryu's character designs over the years. He just seems to have lost those Japanese roots as the SF series "progressed".
You know what I find screwy? Black people in manga or anime. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen them even with black hair (and who only knows how many times with blond), and can only think of once when they actually looked black (Manmachine Interface 2). And let's not forget Ms. European-with-a-tan herself, Fortune from MGS:SOL. I was literally shocked when she opened her mouth and a black woman's voice came out, I figured she was supposed to be either really tanned or dyed hair from equator-close race.
Gets even funnier when there's voicing that sounds like a white person just trying to alter their voice (Burning Rangers, you hear me?).
