Thread: Modern Commodore Monitor equivalent?

  1. Modern Commodore Monitor equivalent?

I'm sure plenty of you have dragged one of those things around (the commodore monitors), as they are just about ideal for portability, and have a damn nice picture for such a small screen.

Does anyone know of something a wee bit newer, perhaps with svideo input, that could be had fairly cheaply?

    Commodore.

The Commodore monitor has a plug that splits luma and chroma, basically what S-video does. This was out before S-video became standard, so you will probably need someone to make an adapter for you.

  3. Well, if you consider $600+ 'fairly cheap'... you can have:

    DESCRIPTION:
This industrial RGB Monitor will bring out the best picture quality your game system is intended for. The tube is made by Wells-Gardner, one of the best CRT manufacturer of RGB monitors in the Arcade industry. It is designed for Arcade cabinets, but also can be used with the Super NOVA Arcade , the Nintendo N64, Sony Playstation, Sega Saturn, or Neo.Geo Cart/CD systems. This unit will deliver extra sharp, detailed, and vivid colors with no visible distortions whatsoever.

    (19-inch) $645.00
    (25-inch) $845.00

Commodores are lovely, lovely things, eh?

  4. Doesn't make much sense to buy that from MAS. If you buy direct from Wells Gardner you can get a tri mode (also does vga) 27 incher for $500. You just don't get the red outer casing.

What exactly would you consider "fairly cheap" by the way?

  6. Eh, not more than a few hundred dollars. The 'portable' aspect was kind of key also. I can one hand a commodore monitor and drag it over to a friends place to play. I've got a wega for my home gaming pleasure, I just want something friends over can play on that looks nice, or something I can bring over to someone elses to geek out with multiplayer-singleplayer gaming.

Hmm, Sears is selling a 20" D-series from Sears for $230. It has component and S-video, and weighs 45 pounds (don't know if you'd want to one-hand that).

Check out the 14" Toshiba flatscreen set. It's $180, and comes equipped with Component & S-Video.
