    Arcade morons

A few days back at the local arcade some friends and I witnessed someone playing the capoeira chick from Tekken4. Not only was he playing the game, but he also started doing the moves in front of everyone.

At our last trip we see the guy playing SoulCalibur2. Before going into a match with someone, he puts his hands together in a some Zen-like prayer. During play he starts yelling out the character moves and basically coming off as a retard to everyone.

Do people like this realize how they should be dragged out of the arcade and shot? Being a gamer is hard as it is. Being a retarded gamer is even worse. (BTW, I'm pretty sure the guy isn't REALLY retarded)

  2. Dorks and "Retarded" gamers are surely entertaining. My friend's brother is an arcade retard in ways you can't imagine. I always go arcading with him, though- just for the funny factor.

Just laugh at 'em and its OK.

  3. We have someone like that around here.

    "SHIN-SHORYU---KEEEEEEEEEEEEN!"

I hate it when he does that...

  4. Only in America.

Did anyone ever see that infamous Final Fight GBA IGN clip with that guy shouting "I own you, I own you"?

What a bloody fool. Amusing thou.

  5. The worst cases of "arcade morons" I've come across have been a few DDR players who are either guilty over overzealous "dancing" whilst playing the game, or pulling rather absurd and amusing faces whilst playing the game, and a guy who spent an insane amount of money maxxing out his character and making his way to Skorne in Gauntlet Legends, pulling odd faces and mumbling seemingly "medieval" phrases ("I shall smite thee!") whilst playing. Thankfully, I've been lucky enough to not encounter any really major freaks whilst playing games in local arcades...the few true freaks in my area all play laser tag, whilst wearing combat gear, doing barrel rolls and screaming warcries.

You guys think that's bad? Just be glad you haven't seen me play an arcade wrestling game. I rattle off the history of every wrestler in a game, then do play-by-play commentary as I play. :jest:
YAY, I am an arcade retard.

  8. Not limited to America, it happens in Japan too

I was watching a movie of a Virtua Fighter 2 tournament with BunBun Maru (one of the Tetsujin, a group of the best VF players) and another guy in a tournament. Every time BunBun got in a Giant Swing with his Wolf, he'd rise from his seat and pump his fist to the crowd behind him and yell to them. The guy he was playing tried it as well but failed miserably, heh. He only stood up halfway and gave a halfhearted fist pump.
If my memory of her has an expiration date, let it be 10,000 years.

  9. This thread is hilarious! Especially that first post! Reminds me of someone I used to see alot in the arcade on 53rd & Bdway (now a gym)in NYC back in the early '90s...

He used to wear a top hat all the time, and he was a Mortal Kombat freak (actually, he loved ALL fighting games, but he was a nut when it came to MK).. He used to scream out Raiden's cry (the one where he flies across the screen), he could duplicate all the winning poses (most impressive was the female Goro winning pose), and he loved to have play-fights with total strangers. Ironically, he made alot of friends this way. He even came in one day dressed almost exactly like the guy with the razor hat.

And damn, was he FUNNY! His antics, jokes and chiding of others were classic. He was a like a black Seinfeld videogamer.

But this guy was GOOD. He made his own strategy guides, complete with drawings (stick figures for moves and full character portraits) on scrap paper. I distinctly remember the X-men: Children of the Atom strategy guide (this also gives you an idea of the timeframe), which was freaking amazing! He had aspirations of making his own home console and he had drawn up designs for it. Probably never got off the ground, but I'd be interested to see what he's doing now.

  10. @ Padman: Yes, 'tis funny. But it's still mildly scary.
@ Reno: Did the crowd cheer loudly for BunBun? I'd be a little worried if they did...
