Thread: Takashi Miike!! (Iichi the Killer)

  1. Takashi Miike!! (Iichi the Killer)

I just discovered this director for myself recently, and I'm sure a lot of other people have too, he seems to be gaining popularity internationally slowly. I saw his movie Audition and was completely suprised by it, it was so over-the-top and original AND based on a story by one of my favorite Japanese authors (Ryu Murakami).
Just wondering if anyone else here is sharing my excitement for this guy, I saw that Despair had an Iichi the Killer thread before
Also, I've noticed only Audition and Fudoh seem to be available in the US, does anyone know of a good place to buy high quality/uncut bootleg or import movies?

  2. Well, I've seen half of Audition (I watched it alone and folded at the first scare, I'll watch the rest of it with my friends) and want to see many more of his movies. Happiness of the Katakuris (which along with City of Lost Souls and Dead or Alive should be released here this year) looks like the greatest movie ever. Salsashark, do you have a regionless dvd player? You'll need one to watch most of Miike's movies.

  3. Well, As Green said, Hazard City(City of Lost Souls), and Happiness of Katakuris, will be released in US some time later this year. And hopefully Dead or Alive as well. There are also some plans to release Ichi, but nothing solid yet.

Dead or Alive also availabe on UK dvd, and if you have Region Free dvd player that supports Pal conversion, you can pick it up. Also both Dead or Alive 2 and Visitor Q, also be released shortly.

And Dead or Alive 3 Final, will come to dvd in Japan this November, but will be Japanese only, with no Eglish sub, just like recent Ichi dvd. Still I'm looking forward getting it, and also hopefully Agitator dvd will come soon as well. And dont bother to get HK dvd of Ichi, as it severely cut. But I heard of the rumors of bootleg dvd that is the rip of Japanese uncut release, and has subs of HK dvd, but havent seen it myself.

Miike films I seen so far: Dead or Alive, Dead or Alive 2, City of Lost Souls, Fudoh and Ichi the Killer. I'm yet to see Audition, but I dont really care about Happines or Andromedia. Still, Miike is vry talented and productive, he makes like 3 films a year, too bad its kinda hard to get them, especially in US.

  4. Thanks to both of you, even that helped me out, I'm glad to hear those three mentioned are on the way! I think Fudoh is next for me.

And unfortunately I only have a standard U.S. DVD player so I can't see any PAL or Import translations. I did see an "Uncut/Region 1" DTS DVD for sale on Ebay, cheap too, but I don't know about it.

Does anyone know anything about this? And if so, if it's really uncut or not?

  5. Checked out Fudoh last night, thought it was an awesome movie. Several scenes had me laughing my ass off as well as making me go 'HOLY SHIT'.

That one 'weapon' totally knocked my socks off.

i checked to see if visitor q, audition, dead or alive, fudoh, and city of lost souls were available R1, and they are. the only thing i didn't do was check to see if they're all in stock.

  8. Certainly an incredibly talented lady.

It's good to know Fudoh isn't even considered Miike's best work because I'm greatly looking forward to his other movies.
