Thread: Why do you Neo-Geo?

  1. Why do you Neo-Geo?

Acquiring a Neo-Geo system and its games is very, very expensive. I'm curious to know why you folks who currently own the system have shelled out so much money for it. Is it because you love playing the games so much? It is for status purposes (similar to how people buy BMW's and Benz's)? Or is for something else?

Please don't get the wrong idea from my question; it's not an attack. I really want to know what motivates a gamer to get a Neo-Geo and its games.

  2. I dont have a neogeo , but I guess its because of the large library of 2D games which other systems dont have.(or people dont think they have)

Its more baffling than a purple monkey dishwasher.

I hear its got something to do with special "Neo magic" TM feelings.

  4. Strangely enough, I didn't buy my Neo for fighting games. I bought it for the shmups and action games, as well as the platformers. Sure, I could emu all the games for free but I absolutely refuse to play console games on my PC (Attention: This post is my personal opinion only. ). I love those big, sexy carts, as well as just playing the darn thing.

  5. I own a Neo Geo because:

1- Many of the fighters aren't on any other system

2- Many 'ports' and conversions of NeoGeo games are butchered to hell on other consoles. Not even the Saturn does the Neo perfectly

3- And yes, it is a status symbol of my "hardcoreness"

  6. I love the games. That's pretty much the only reason. Yes, there are ports available. No, none of the ports are 100% accurate. Systems never had the power to handle the ports untill the DC came along, and midway through the DC's life someone (Capcom) got the "brilliant" idea of filtering low res graphics into high res displays and everybody has followed since. MotW and LastBlade 2 suffer as a result. I'll take my MVS orriginals.

  7. yeah its kinda like a benz so to speak, but it just has some games that are soo dam good.

  8. I just like the Neo and just about all of its games. Got hooked to it when I was just a small kid in a big arcade and an MVS cabinet with Ninja Combat, Magician Lord, Cyber-Lip, and the Super Spy forced me to spend my weekly allowance on it every week. Not to mention the Neo Geo is excellent for blowing off stress during college. I'd always go to my university's gameroom and play the a Neo-Geo game after a hard exam. If not for the the Neo-Geo, I would have had a mental breakdown before finishing college!

  9. More specifically, here is why I "Neo Geo":

    Last Blade 2
    MotW
    Real Bout Special
    Baseball Stars 2
    Magical Drop 3
    Top Hunter
    Metal Slug
    Metal Slug2
    Metal Slug3
    Sengoku
    Waku Waku 7
    Blazing Star
    Pulstar
    Samurai Shodown 2
    Samurai Shodown 4

I would add Kof 98 to the list, but in all honesty the best version of that game around is the DC 99 Dream Match, so I will give credit where credit is due. Anyway, every game on that list can only be played fully in tact on the NEO. Some day, I hope to add a few more reasons to "Neo Geo" to my list including Shock Troopers, Metal SlugX and Metal Slug 4.

I would agree with that except that the music restarts between rounds in team play mode SNK screwing up what could have been an excellent port.
