Thread: Anyone getting Animal Crossing?

  1. There's a lot to do, but not really a lot to explore. There are about 5-6 other residents who you can meet and interact with early on, although I think others move in later.

  2. I thought this game shipped Sep. 24th? Same day as Star Fox Adventures. Any who, the E-Reader sounds cool and all, but I don't think its that important to Animal Crossig. Besides then I will have to buy ass loads of Pokemon cards so I can get all the cards I need so I can play "Punch-Out". I will be buying this game though, it sounds like great fun. Plus you don't NEED the E-Reader to get NES games, it just makes it easier.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  3. AC ships to retailers on the 16th.

It won't be hard at all to pick up the default NES games without the cards because of the trading mechanism. It's almost like trading online.

Say you have Balloon Fight, and I have Punch-Out, and we want to trade. I can take my Punch-Out to the general store and trade it in for a unique code keyed to your character name and town name which I can send to you and you can input to acquire Punch-Out. You'd do the same with Balloon Fight. Now, we'd both wind up giving up our original games, but the general store catalog will allow you to order any item you've already possessed ("unlocked"). Since money ("bells") isn't that much of an issue, we'd both be a lot better off.

Once the game releases, we'll set up a trading thread where we can cut deals and unlock the default games in no time. If we're real sneaky, we can all name our town the same thing, then set up a dummy file in our town with the same name, so we can unlock codes that can be used by all of us.

E-Cards might be necessary to unlock special games (like SMB and Zelda), but I have no idea whether those games are already in the game code.

  4. Hmmm odd. So you don't need to Memory Card tansfer to do this? Its just some code, like they made a specific code for "Balloon Fight trade for Punch-Out"? If so I imagine a list will eventually surface for all the trades or something.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  5. Not quite, but close. There may be mem card swapping (there is mem card character swapping, where you could take your character into my town) but there isn't a need for it.

There aren't codes for trades per se - just codes for gifts that can be traded. There's no "Trade Balloon Fight for Punch-Out" code, but there's a "Give Punch-Out to Clashmaster in Clashmasterville" code I can trade my Punch-Out for, and I might ask that you trade your Balloon Fight for a "Give Balloon Fight to Burgundy in Burgundyville" code and give that to me.

And it's not only limited to games - Mzo might want to trade his oversized N64 logo for Master's new coffee table. It's a bit confusing at first, but that's why MBs are going to be really hot when this game launches.

  6. But how does it know that Clashmasterville exists, and that you just traded it to me. And how does my copy know that Burgunyville just traded me the game? Sounds like Mem Card is required.

  7. Nope.

When you send a code, you key it to the name and location of the recipient. You'd trade it the game (or item) in at the general store, and input my name (Burgundy) and town (Burgundyville) and get a code unique to the item, my name, and my town name. The codes contain all that info, so naturally they're like 30 characters long. Another NES memory - long and stupidly complicated passwords.

When you receive a code, your game doesn't care who sent it. Anyone in the world producing a Punch-Out code for Clashmaster in Clashmasterville (incidentally, the game doesn't let you have names this long, but you get the point) would produce the same code. The codes are unique to the recipient. Meaning that Master can't use a code I (or anyone else) has made for you, unless his character is named Clashmaster and lives in Clashmasterville.

The point is that the game reads the item, name and town from the password itself. No mem card swap is required.

  8. I think this sounds super-cool.

I'm gonna try and rent it today.

  9. It's kinda like the complicated password system in the Zelda Oracle games. The password/code is generated on the fly, containing the receiver's info. Very cool concept but a pain to input.

Dammit, the 16th is on a Monday, I guess I'll have to take the bus to the mall just to get it.
    Name: Rock
    Town: Arcadia

  10. *sigh*

And I just got out of Mario's grip... The Cube is just all about taking up all of my time lately. Beach Spikers has me right now. Monkey Ball 2 will have me later today. It seems Animal Crossing will have me before I am even free of my current two captors. Factor Castlevania into this and sleep doesn't seem very likely...
