Thread: Couple tries to name baby "Bin Laden"

  1. A childs name isn't for their best interest, it's whatever the people who fucking created you want to call you.

  2. EThugg - Without getting into a further debate, your view on the parent-child relationship is wildly different from that of the rest of the world.

Anyway, German law says that a child can't be named anything ridiculous or offensive, so that's really the bottom line. Germany doesn't have a First Amendment, and even verbal support of Nazism is a crime there. I wonder if the States have similar laws.

Responding in disagreement made further debate neccessary. In what way are my ideas 'wildly different'? If I create the fucking child, I own the fucking child. I've never meant a parent who disagreed. And outside of the BS 'he/she looks like a (insert name here)' I can't see any other reason for the names any parent has given their childeren.

  5. Ok, well... as long as we all agree that kids are nothing more possessions.

  6. Nor should it be against their best interest.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  7. I don't think a name has anything to do one way or another with the childs best interest. The childs best interest is to be provided for and maintained until adulthood.

I also don\'t agree in any situation with letting some stupid people who might be violent dictate my decisions. Some kids will be violent? That\'s not my fault. No name makes it ok to beat people up (for the sake of their name alone).

OK! That almost sounds like an argument for this side of the debating team...

You see, If a stranger says to you "I'll name you 'Turd sandwich'", you can say "no, don't. Thats stupid.". Now imagine that you couldn't comunicate. he'd say "I'll name you 'Turd sandwich'", and you would just sit there.

Your new name is now Turd sandwich. imagine how everyone who finds that humourous would treat you. Your quality of life has decreased as a result.

Thats a situation you wouldn't agree with, right?

At birth, a child is yet to make an emotional connection with their parents, so to the baby they might as well be strangers. They say to the newborn "I'll name you 'Osama Bin Laden'". This baby cannot say "no, don't. thats stupid", for it hasn't developed communication skills yet, and is currently unaware of the significance of his name. Every parent, teacher, and eventually peer will make fun of him, and he can't do squat about it.

Now, can you understand our argument? not agree with, but actually understand it?

    IF Answer$ <> "yes" THEN goto 10.

Wouldn't they have some fucking sense in choosing a name?

You own an Xbox, so you can destroy it. If you own a house, you're also free to destroy it as long as you don't jeopardize anyone else or anyone else's possessions. You cannot destroy or abuse your child, despite the fact that you brought it into the world and that you have responsibility for or control over him. Therefore, you don't own your children.

Also, possession of other human beings is prohibited by the Thirteenth Amendment.

Now you may think you own your children, but the rest of society has passed laws that say different, and if you act on your beliefs to the harm of your children, you will be arrested, convicted and imprisoned for it.
