Thread: One choice to play them all...

  1. One choice to play them all...

Based upon the recently reported at IGN, since Sega has apparently has a new development/publishing angle in mind, how do you feel that will affect future consumer purchasing power? I think at most, many of us have about 2 systems among the existing three next-gen platforms. But for those that don't, would you now consider buying one of the others (theorectically for those that own all, too) just to experience all the games that are now said to be platform-exclusive.

Personally I don't see why Sega has chosen to go this route. Granted the whole agnostic thing sounded wierd at first, and many of us probably still feel cheated how Dreamcast's lifespan was cut short. I just hope they don't decide to make any more shocking announcements, like plans to return to console development

  2. My most recent console is the DC. I owned a GC for a while and sold it back. I have no intention of ever owning one again.

I don't know what to think about this... What happened to the big multi-console plan?

    Weird.

I sorta kinda in a way just a bit hope they choose PS2 if anything. Not sure why, but maybe because I sorta want a JPN PS2 (dai-ou-jou...dai-ou-jou...)

    As for the X-Box... ehh...

    Well, whatever.

My DC is fine and dandy for now.

    We shall see.

I think Sega should support all three platforms, for their own sake.

I don't feel cheated by the Dreamcast's lifespan because I got more than my money's worth and I would rather see games like Shinobi and Panzer Dragoon Orta on hardware more powerful than the DC.

Even disregarding Sega games completely, for me all three current systems are must-own anyway.

  4. well i plan on owning an Xbox this fall so honestly it doesnt matter to me either way

i just think its a bad descion for sega specially if they go MS exclusive i think they should go as multi as they possibly can

I have an Game Cube and a PS2, and I need to get an XBox sooner or later for the games it already has on it, so it affects me very little.

I'll soon own all three (especially if the Xbox really does go down to $150), so it doesn't really matter to me what Sega does.

But I really want them to go GC exclusive, because I love my GC.

  7. It doesn't seem like the brightest move. Sure, they may be tieing themselves in with a major company but hopefully they don't tie themselves in with the wrong one. It would suck if they chained themselves to a sinking ship.

I think the brightest choice of the three; however, would be Sony. They have a HUGE installed base, it would be impossible for the system to fail at this point. It's the safest bet.
I thought you were gay.... i guess not.

  8. I don't own any of the three yet. I think they all have pros and cons from my own personal perspective. I also think there are pros and cons for each console from Sega's perspective, depending on who whey pick (if it's true). --- Anyway, this much I do know. If the rumours are true - and I really hope they are - I can guarantee that my next console will be decided by this decision. It's really that simple. I may still get 1 or 2 of the others in time, but I'll definitely know which one to get first!

As for which one I hope it is, well, I don't have that much preference. I am pretty platform agnostic myself, but since the vasy majority of my favourite games are Sega-made, I'll just be happy with any one system where the Sega games can be found. If I had to pick I'd say that I hope it's Gamecube and think it will be.. no big deal though..

As for if this is a smart decision by Sega. Well, I don't autoimatically think it's a bad one like many seem to think. I think it has the potential to be quite benefiscial to them in many ways. It really depends on who they pick and how well it turns out. I went on about this in length in the other thread on the subject.

Anyway, I still find the entire rumour to be highly suspect. But consider me someone who is hoping it comes true for his own personal reasons as well as for Sega's sake and the sake of them making profits and more great games in the future.

  10. I'm a little slow in understanding what Sega's intentions are. Are they planning on developing all their games on one system or are they planning on having each of their franchises stay on whatever system that they come out for (ex. Monkey Ball stays on Cube, PD Orta stays on Xbox, Shinobi on PS2). I think the PS2 stands to give Sega the biggest marketshare availability but it seems that the GC's small library gives Sega a better chance at sales versus other non-Nintendo GC games. As for Xbox, well, unless Microsoft keeps pouring millions of dollars into Sega's lap, I doubt it would be a wise proposition to continue exclusive development on the Xbox considering the majority of Xbox owners probably bought it for Halo (read: mainstream).
