Thread: Who here still has the "developers disc" for preordering a PS?

  1. Who here still has the "developers disc" for preordering a PS?

i pulled out my pile of demo discs the other day when i got my modded PSOne. in it were the 2 cd's you got when you preordered a PS on launch day. the one was a music cd with "up and coming" SONY artists and the other was a tech demo cd. ahhhhhh the memories that disc brought back but for some reason the PSOne seemed to have trouble with the disc. the dino would start having epileptic spazz out poly tearing fits and sometimes it would just lock up. but i put that manta ray demo on while i did some homework the other day. anybody else still have theirs?

  2. I do.
You forgot to mention about the FMV scene with that young Asian model & her make up session in it...

  3. oh yeah i have that, wasnt that the one with all the bouncing frogs?

I loved that dinosaur tech demo.

But since I got my Playstation in December of 1995, mine didn't come with it.

  5. Someone care to go into detail about this dinosaur thing since I've never owned this demo disk/have no idea what the hell anyone is talking about.

  6. It was one disc, in the CD player it played up and comers like Korn, and in the PSX it played a demo where you could move a big dino, and a bunch of bouncing balls and shit.

MS should do that so we can all see the mouse trap demo.

  8. im into tech demos for some reason and have burned a lot of stuff from the DC homebrew scene that shows off the power of the system in a non-gameplay state. somebody even just released a new boot up screen for the DC as well.

oh and dorik....there was a reason i failed to mention that awe inspiring part of the demo

  9. Ah, one of the greatest demos of all time.

    *pops it into PSX*

Here's a run down of whats on the disc:

Balls: A single ball is bouncing around the screen, and by pressing up you add several more balls which you can can pause and look at how much crap the system can process at once.

Diffusion: A giant cube comprised of balls, or squares zooms into the screen repeatedly. You can rotate the cube and make the objects transparent.

Rcube: A giant diamond like shape comprised of spining cubes, which can be rotated, zoomed in and out, cause it to bust apart and make the cubes scatter, change the background and cube textures.

Mat: a frog like thing jumping up and down on a mat, you can add more frogs and rotate and zoom in on the mat.

Oden: Light and texture demo on three geometric shapes. This one always reminded me of the UPN logo.

Movie: A bunch of random vieos, like clouds and the aforementioned girl.

Texture Movie: A clip of the girl from before is shown at the bottom corner of the screen, while that same clip is wrapped around a sphere which is floating around. You can add two more spheres and rotate them around.

Manta: A very calm and peaceful demo of a giant manta ray swimming through the ocean, whilst being surrounded by a school of fish. You can controll whether the fish are by the manta, and you can move the manta around. I've heard tell that this demo was the inspiration for Namco's Treasure's of the Deep.

Dino: And now on to the main attraction. In the background lies some sort of castle backdrop, with trees in the foreground and a moon overhead. In the middle of the screen is giant T-Rex who is running in place. You can make him look to the left or the right, make him growl or roar, zoom in on him and look at the way the skin on his face moves when he growls, and if you played around long enough you could make him do other things like stand on his tippy toes, and make him glitch like crazy.

Another thing on the disc was the way the announcer would shout out little hints to games:

"Namco's Ridge Racer: And expert marksman gets more keys."
"Kabal: *says some combo really fast*"
"Espn Extreme Games: Money isn't everything, but it gets you to a whole new world."
"Agi: *says some combo really fast*"

There's also a PS2 tech demo which is really cool, it's on some demo disc, I'd have to look around to find it.

  10. I still have it. I spent more time playing with a digital T-rex than I did playing Toshinden.
