Inarguably the best shooter, ever! Need we say more?
"During the days of the Saturn, when it was at long last disappearing from stores, a company responsible for some of the greatest action games ever released an overhead shooter. Titled Radiant Silvergun, it grew to legendary status thanks more to eBay and overpricing than its own merits. It's a shame that it did so much so well and has the greatest story ever in its genre yet is out of reach to many thanks to its asking price. Now, years later, Treasure once again releases a shooter during (actually, past) the final days of a Sega console and the result is nothing short of astounding."

I'm not sure about way better, but they're at least tied. ESP RaDe is more on-the-fly bullet-dodging whereas Ikaruga is more pattern-based, so they each lend themselves to a different play-style.
In every technical field and in terms of innovation and design, Ikaruga is superior. In terms of gameplay they're both excellent, but I'm not sure which gives me the bigger rush: dodging right through the middle of a boss bullet-swarm or managing to survive by flipping colors properly while reading the movements of all the bullets. They're both insane...
Ikaruga edges out ESP RaDe in the end. Doesn't dampen my love for our little psychic warriors, though.
For some. DDP is an awesome shooter, no doubt about it, but I don't like it as much as ESP RaDe or Ikaruga due to the chaining system. I simply don't like the way it's done as much as, say, Ikaruga's.
There are a bunch of shots of the new one in an issue of Arcadia I just recieved (August) and it does look like bullet heaven (a few shots resemble Mars Matrix swarms, but there's no absorbing here), but I'll wait and see if I like it more then DDP.
Ah, to be part of a time with so many excellent shooters... this is nice.
