  1. What is Napple Tale? Does any site offer a review of the game?

Cosmic Smash really ain't so great, I'd rather play Super Breakout.

    Capcom vs. SNK 2
    Cool Cool Toon
    Fire Pro Wrestling D
    Giant Gram 2000
    Guilty Gear X
    Headhunter
    Mr. Driller
    Rez
    Samba De Amigo 2000
    Shenmue 2

    16-bit, it's a 2.5D Platform/RPG with a brilliant soundtrack.

  3. Napple Tale is a 2.5D platformer.

    Here is a review:

I need to buy this game too, but I have heard the soundtrack... The music is beautiful.

  4. Hadn't really paid any attention to Napple Tale, now there's another to add to the list. Great...

Thanks for the game impressions, by the way. I admit, I'm more curious about Hehhe for its novelty value than anything else. Cosmic Smash is one I'd considered, and may get eventually anyway.

Now to not think about the final games I need for Saturn...

  5. Well, Hehhe does deliver in that department. If you do end up getting it, I hope you enjoy it.

James like Johnny mentioned Fire Pro Wrestling D is a must. Best Wrestling game evar. I've played it everyday since I got it many months ago. It never gets old.

  7. Cosmic Smash rules the school! And its cheap too, I got mine for $25 brand new. And it has the best DC case of any DC game. And its got wicked cool stlye.

I have quite a few DC games (most listed already) I would like to get as well, sigh to many things at once. I wish I enjoyed working somewhere other than a video store so I could make money. Oh well.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

    Waste of money.
I'll take em off your hands.

  9. So...where could one get a copy of Napple Tale?

VGD doesn't stock it, NCS is out, and I couldn't find it on Himeya or Japan Video Games either.

    Lil'help?

And what the Hell kind of game is Lost Golem?

  10. For those of you curious about Napple Tale, I suggest reading some of the NT threads on this board. The main one is here:

But for convenience, I'll just post my descript:

I really like Napple Tale. As many have pointed out, the entire soundtrack is composed by Kanno Youko, with Sakamoto Maaya (from Escaflowne) doing all the songs. There are I believe 9 songs in the game. She also does the voice of Arisia Poach, the main character.

How to describe the game... well, basically it's an RPG? in that you walk around and talk to people and solve quests in order to further the storyline. But the way you progress through the game is through 2.5D platform levels. Not by going around and leveling up. There are only about 14-16 stages in the game, which is not a whole lot. The stage lengths can range from 2 minutes to 10 minutes. But the way the game is structured, you will be revisiting a lot of the stages again and again.

See, in addition to the above, you need to create Paffets, which are these creature-thingies that can aid you. Some paffets are there for triggering story events or fulfilling quests. Other paffets you can bring along with you to help you. For instance, one paffet, if you use it, will double your score for a limited time. Another will kill all enemies on the screen for you. Another will turn into a trampoline allowing you to access parts of levels you could not access before.

Paffet creation is a two step process... first you must collect ingredients. You will obtain items from killing enemies. Then you must examine each different type of item in a machine. This is a game in of itself. When you are examining an item, you have 60 seconds to find all the ingredients in it. There will generally be 3-4 ingredients in each item. You need to rotate the item in 3D, looking for spots that may contain ingredients. Once you've found them all, you no longer need to look for them again in that item. You will be able to drop those ingredients into your ingredient pool anytime. The second process is, once you have your pool of ingredients, you must create paffets with them. Each paffet is composed of 4 ingredients... you could technically just fool around and experiment with 4 ingredient combinations to see if you create a paffet. But there are a -lot- of different combinations since there are a lot of ingredients, so this guess and check method is far from ideal. So, the game also has recipes. You will gain recipes by finding certain treasure chests, or fulfilling quests. Once you have a recipe, you can just click on it and it will create your paffet automatically, provided you have the necessary ingredients.

There are many many sidequests as well, which makes it difficult if you don't understand Japanese, as someone said. And even if you did, I think it's hard to trigger the events for all of them. But you need to fulfill them all in order to obtain all the paffets. Not that you necessarily need to, but I'm a completionist ^^;.

The game isn't flawless though.. As I said, there are too few stages, and while they are generally fun to play again and again, you kind of wish there were more stages. Also, the game is a bit on the easy side. It's hard to die. The graphics aren't particularly spectacular either. But if you can look over those things, and the language factor, it's a really cool underrated, unknown game.
