The first one is great. The second one is the same as the first. So it too is great, just more of the same. A great play through, but you may tire of it.
Recentlly, I saw all of the Syphon Filter games for $9.99 each and it got my curiousity running. I remember the first one getting great reviews and being better than Metal Gear Solid gameplay wise. As for the second SF, it seemed to get very mixed reviews as people either loved it or thought it was mediocre. The third one I know noting about, other than the fact that it was released sometime in the past few months. Does anyone have some information on SF 3 or just thoughts on the SF series in general? personally, I have high hopes that the PS2 version will be a worthy successor to the original game.

The first one is the best, IMO, if for only how fresh and original it seems. The fact you have the GREATEST GAME WEAPON EVER MADE: THE AIR TASER! available in almost every mission. I remember this one mission, set in the arctic, where your goal is to blow up these gas tanks and not alert any attention. Well, on that level, I'd intentionally set off the alarm and stand near the entrance gates at the beginning of the level and Air Taser anyone who came near me, and fried them to a crisp![]()
Syphon Filter 2 is longer and probably more difficult than the first, it took me over a week to work through it, there's alot more stealth-related gameplay, I think 989 Studios were trying a bit too hard to capture the MGS/Tenchu stealth bandwagon, and this sequel feels more like a shameless rip-off of those two. But the GREATEST GAME WEAPON EVER MADE: THE AIR TASER...is barely present in this gameyou only get it in the last couple of missions.
Syphon Filter 3 just came out last year, and probably should've just been developed for the PS2 instead, but I guess I could see why they'd do it for the PSX instead as it wraps up this part of the series' storyline. I found the game incredibly easy compared to the first two chapters, as I ran through it in roughly two days time, and the story had some really irritating and convoluted plot twists. But, I give the game a passing grade because the GREATEST GAME WEAPON EVER MADE: THE AIR TASER makes its triumphant return!
So, wEE, in a nutshell...
SF1 - best, and most challenging (in a good way) of the bunch, most balanced gameplay, and, of course, THE AIR TASER!
SF2 - challenging (in the bad, frustrating kind of way), and tries a little too hard to be MGS/Tenchu, and no Air Taser. Still a decent game.
SF3 - convoluted plot-twists and easy gameplay aside, provides excellent backstory for the series' main characters and the return of the Air Taser!
So I suggest you pick up the first one, and if you like it, then pick up the other two, if you liked it but couldn't live without the AIR TASER, then just pick up 3![]()
omg TNL epics!
I despise the first game. The people that wrote the story belong in a mental institution for the criminally stupid. Flak jackets for stopping bullets? Someone failed to inform them that flak jackets are for stopping shrapnel, not bullets. Even bullet resistant vests do not do crap against rifle bullets for the most part, unless you get into the better stuff like SpectraShield's No Man Down vest. Kevlar is garbage.
Imaginary guns. Why the fuck could they not take a little time and effort to license the names?
Shipping virus ridden corpses around the world to spread the virus. This is smart. All they had to do was put tissue samples in a cooler and carry them around that way, not ship hundreds of corpses all over the world to spread the disease.
I could not bring myself to finish the game, it was so fucking stupid.
Oh yeah, the main character runs like he knows where Richard Gere's missing hamster is.

The only enjoyable part of Syphon Filter for me was watching the main guy run around. His shit in my pants run never stopped making me laugh.

I liked pt. 1 up until I beat the park level at the beginning... I stopped caring after that, and never touched the other 2.
989 does not make good games, period.

I liked the first one. I never played 2 or 3. The tazer is definately the best weapon I've ever seen in a game. So fun. You can fry a guy who is a mile away and looks no larger than a speck on the screen. They won't know what hit'em. They might as well have put a scope on the tazer and finished the deal.
But it does get hard in a few parts in the game. You definately won't get through every mission the first time you try it. And the bosses are fun. Except for that damn helicopter on the roof. There was an easy way to beat it but I chose the hard way cause it took forever for me to destroy it.
Later all...

In search of forever
989 didn't make it; Eidetic made it, although they were bought by Sony. Maybe they were swallowed up into 989, which would be a god damn shame.
