Thread: Fan Reviews Section is now open!

  1. Fan Reviews Section is now open!

Due to the increased level of community reviews, TNL presents the official Fan Reviews board - you're one-stop access point to all fan reviews (and first impressions).

    The guidelines are relatively straightforward...

    Reviews

    1. When creating a thread for a particular game, please label it as it's officially called - abbreviations are valid as long as its something that everyone can easily recognize (or else we may moderate it so that users can easily identify it. Below are some examples:

    Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance

    MGS2: Substance

    PSO Ver. 2

    These are ok...
These are examples of what might be edited...

SMB, (which some could easily stand for Super Mario Brothers, or Super Monkey Ball or Fusion, which some may recognize as Wipeout Fusion, but better not to assume and just be specific.
It's optional if you want to put anything in the description thread for anyone that's curious. Because we're not featuring sub-boards for each platform...please be sure to select the corresponding console icon for the game you're covering. (Note: If you're planning to do SNK reviews...select the 25 cents icon...if anyone would like to contribute an SNK style graphic for us...please contact me to discuss).

If you're posting an impressions, please write something like: Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance Impressions.

    2. Fan reviews don't officially require a specific word count, but it's expected that you'll cover all the general areas (graphics, sound/music, gameplay, fun factor, etc.)

    3. If possible, please try to follow the TNL format (we don't mean you have to list the developer and publisher, but if you want to throw that in there, it's just more information for the rest the community). The ratings breakdown is as the following:

Ratings are scored on a scale of 1-10

    • Graphics
    • Gameplay
    • Replay Value
    • Sound (covers sound effects and music)

    The overall score ranges from A - F (there's no E rating, and only scores ranging from A - C vary from + or - i.e. A+, A, A-).

    4. Please be very moderate in your profanity...in fact, if you can leave it out - it would be more beneficial to do so, as we are planning to develop a system that will feature the latest fan reviews not only for the board community to read, but will also be live on the main page. (an announcement will follow in this board once that's officially established).

    • I thought it would be best to allow registered members to make their own thread, in this way - feedback for all reviews/impressions.
    • The ratings feature is also enabled, which basically allows you to vote on whether you feel the person's thread was very helpful, informative, and/or entertaining. This will also prove to be very effective for any registered users (or guests) doing a search on a particular game and want to immediately find what are nominated as the 'best' of the bunch.
    • Only vB code can be used here...HTML is disabled. For more information on the valid vB code, click here
    • Post reviews (or first impressions) only...no screenshots please...

If you have any questions regarding this new board, feel free to post them here...any general feedback, please post in the official Feedback board.

    Enjoy!

  2. I forsee this board getting huge
"Remember, not knowing how to cook is like not knowing how to fuck."
    Geek in the Desert

  3. That's the general idea. Effective immediately - all impressions and reviews should go here (and will be moved here, so everyone please read that sentence over again before you choose to bitch at the moderators!) Once I get a fan reviews graphic set up...I'll be working with cka on how to get some sort of output going from this board (or something). I am sure there's a way...but for now, it's up and running and I hope everyone enjoys this latest addition to the forum community.

Btw...for those of you who I\'ll be moving "review/impression" threads moved into this board, feel free to update your older reviews according to the guidelines (it's not necessary since they're older, but would be helpful).

Just be sure to remember them for future reference when posting new impressions/reviews. Thanks...

  4. Pro tip: Hm...it's not a problem, but I would suggest if everyone just writes "Game Title" in the subject thread instead of "my take on...blah blah blah". But that's a individual preference to consider. IMO, it's obvious that those reading the thread will realize you're writing your own opinion - just trying to save those of you that contributed thus far (thanks btw) extra typing.

    i.e. Metal Gear Solid 2.

That's it...keep it simple. Just my two cents...Welcome Buncher! *poof* ^_^

  5. if I make a topic in here, I'm not obligated to title it
"my take on whatever" am I?

    x_X

  6. Nope, definitely not required (or even recommened)...that's why I just edited Jay and Buncher's threads. I'd prefer members write it the way you see the threads labeled now...

Example: Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2) instead of "my take.." - Jay's threads were just a few I moved in here, so my guess is that Buncher thought this was the standard. So if any threads do end up like that...I'll just be editing the thread title. This way it's easy to know what platform the game is on.

The "my take on..." was merely a stab at Jay's gratuitous usage of the phrase. Ah, it was all in good fun, lad!

  8. Buncher: oh. HAHAAH! no worries!

Bahn, good sir - Guardian Heroes is for the Saturn, not the Genesis! You are making me look like quite the dolt!

  10. you know..it's so late, i was thinking of Gunstar Heroes!
