Thread: The Thing: Dolemite's hands-on impressions

  1. Thanks for the imps, Dolemite. I wasn't interested in the game at all, figuring it'd be the typical licensed crapfest, but after reading this thread, I'm pretty jazzed. I dig the film immensely, and the game seems to do it justice. The film seemed tailor-made for a game, in retrospect...all it needed was some dedication and attention to detail from the developers.

    This an unexpected, and most welcome, surprise.

  2. Hell yeah! Thanks for the impressions. I loved this movie(I just snagged a free copy because my buddy works at EB where they are giving it away as a promotion with the game) and this game looks great. Glad to hear it turned out as well as you said. I think I'll wait for the XBOX version for the same reason as Despair.

  3. Just got the game today and I've got about a couple of hours play time in (but Monty Python is on now so it's time for a break). I must say so far I'm really liking this game. It's slow to get started and the controls are a bit complex, but once you start to get it the game starts to become quite fun. The whole squad thing is very cool. Plus I like seeing all the things that tie it into the movie (for one thing really early on you find the tape recorder that Kurt Russell was taping in the movie). A very cool game that all fans of the classic movie should definately pick up.

  6. EB's website says September 3rd. However, they don't seem to be offering the pre-buy special (the movie DVD and the figurine) for the Xbox version anymore...

  9. The game was incredible up until the last portion. It had been going downhill for a while (though very, very slowly) but once I got to another annoying boss (specifically: the one that hangs from the ceiling and you have to toss flash grenades at it) I really lost it. Every boss so far have been poorly designed but this was easily the worst one and after defeating that boss (took me ten tries to figure out what to do, and about another fifteen to do it correctly) the game gets incredibly cheap. Unavoidable fire damage and no more health kits? That's lame.

    Otherwise, fine game.

  10. Just picked Up the PS2 version of the game being that I'm a big fan of the movie. I to have logged In some play time, excellent continuation from the movie.As dole stated you find childs dead (doesn't appear to be from alien contact though),Mc greedy's tape recording to exact locals,rooms and signs from the movie sets.the graphics are fairly good. Just don't expect MSG2 or resident evil remake character models and animation. The user interface for command of your squad was wierd at first, but after a couple of min of play It was easy. Control of the main character was good although while firing your weapon In fist person mode It seems you are unable to move around only strafe. Also the whole trust thing injects a nice new twist on the survival horror theme(you can kill your own squad If you want to and vice versa.)
