You have to realize that some people who post stuff here are hyper sensitive to change and bright light. And never ever feed them after midnight or else...

    Town: Arcadia

  3. I wasn't arguing, just pointing something out. I'd rather hear more thoughts on the game myself.

    D

  4. OK put some playtime in, got Prince Tricky and got back to Thorntail Hollow.

Despite, the mixed reviews, I was itching to play this game. I guess you have to be a fan of Rare's N64 games. I still think Banjo Kazooie is the best designed 3D platformer out there, and I went through the entirety of DK64 without a FAQ and got all 201% and rather enjoyed it. Oddly enough, I still haven't gotten around to playing Banjo Tooie, and from what I've read, Jet Force Gemini I'll probably not play, even though I have it. Conker was fun too, I look forward to the XBox rev.

So if you didn't care much for those games, I can see why SFA won't float your boat. Personally, it's been awhile since Conker and the Zelda-style adventure genre is somewhat new gound for Rare. So far I like it, Tricky is pretty annoying and the world isn't as vast as Zelda (yet), but it's good fun. I'm trying to stay away from calling Slippy cuz he makes the game way too easy.

The only complain really is the drop in framerate in Thorntail Hollow...how cool would it have been if they were able to lock it at 60 fps?

  5. Jet Force Gemini and Banjo Tooie are great games, don't let the Rare haters out there deter you from playing them. The only N64 games by Rare that aren't great imo are DK64 and Mickey's Speedway USA. DK64 did a ton of things right but they just got too crazy with the collecting, and Mickey's Speedway USA is inferior in every way to a game Rare made years earlier, Diddy Kong Racing.

I have to say I\'m impressed with how they handled Fox not having his blaster. I was under the impression they either forgot Fox has a blaster or Slippy said \"You don\'t need it\" or something, it fits much better that General Pepper wouldn\'t let him bring it and he\'s pissed about it, so he goes and finds a weapon right away. I also like the presentation and flying levels a lot, it definately feels like a StarFox themed game much more than I was expecting, and not just Zelda with Starfox pasted in. Bittersweet, considering I don\'t think Rare\'s games will be the same level of quality anymore. Now they have deadlines and no Miyamoto to help them.

  6. Hmm I should pick up Mickey just to complete my N64 Rare collection. Completely forgot about it.

Interesting what you said about no Miyamoto and more deadlines. I was thinking that it would be good cuz maybe Rare would be able to move away from the kinds of games they did on N64. Guess we'll have to see.

  7. Jet Force Gemini is Rare's best game to date. It's tough, pretty (for its time), sounds incredible, and has gameplay only a Rare fan could love.
If your pressed for time, grab the guide, even with it the game is tough. Real tough.

But please, play it, and join me in prayer for a sequel.

    My mistake. Some English major..

Sheesh! Now I'm a whiner, fanboy and a moron ...
I don't say "voot" and "zoot" when referring to those games, so by the correct definition, I shouldn't be calling them acronyms either.

And I wasn't really referring to you personally - more to the general debate that occasionally pops up when abbreviations are used. I simply used your post as a soapbox. Sorry.

You were almost my new hero until I read that bit about JFG. I had it but never played it until Spo sold me on it on IRC. It is now my hands-down favorite Rare game, even moreso than Conker.

  9. Hmm looks like I will have to go back and play JFG later on...after I fnish SFA first though.

Off topic, but one question, is collecting all the tribals as maddeningly frustrating as I've heard?

I think this is probably what turned me off from playing too far in the game initially, from IGN's review:

"If gamers do not complete the level after rescuing all the Tribals in it, none of their hard work is saved. Not bad enough yet? Well, what if Rare decided to hide Tribals in hard to find areas and in-between explosive barrels to make the quest more difficult? Still here? Alright, what if enemy drones were made to try and gun down the Tribals as they were being rescued? Still up for the task? Okay then, how about if, like the Jinjos in Banjo-Kazooie, players had to rescue all the Tribals in a level before exiting, or had to start over from scratch if they were to accidentally miss or kill one? "

Convince me this isn't as bad as it seems.

    Pray?

    I've already sacrificed three virgins.

You can visit all of the main levels without collecting all the Tribals, and later on, you can visit everywhere without collecting all the Tribals. You can\'t access the final level and beat the game without collecting the all, but by then, you\'ll either be so hooked you won\'t care or you\'ve long since gotten your $7 worth. I\'ll bet on the former, since you managed to ace DK64, a much more tedious game IMO.
