I've already taken care of Zidane.
Burgundy's right on the money, IGN blew the tribals thing wayyyy out of proportion, and if you beat DK64 201 percent then JFG won't bother you in the slightest. IGN's really stupid sometimes, bitching that much about the tribals is like saying "Goldeneye sucks and is tedious because you could be all the way to the end of a level and then die, and have to do the WHOLE mission over again". Protecting/getting the tribals requires skill and is part of the gameplay, it's not anywhere's near the collectathon mentality of gameplay that was DK64.
Come forth and be cleansed thou who besmircheth Jet Force Gemini!
Well I finished it this weekend and I must admit the last boss fight is really well done. Personally I found the game on the easy side, and just to get a certain stigma out of the way I didn't have to collect tons of stuff a la DK64 or Banjo. There are items to collect but usually around 4 of them.
D
Just thought I'd dig this thread up.
Who's still playing it?
Who's beaten it?
Who agrees it has some of the best graphics ever created?
Who agrees this is the Gamecube's best soundtrack?
I thought this would be my "game of the year", but it's just a bit too shallow to grab that personal honor. I'm 55% done, and enjoying every minute of it though. Easily the most beautiful game I've ever played. Blinx and Suikoden III have stolen some time from it, but thruth is, I just don't want to finish it too quickly.
I'm really going to miss Rare developed Nintendo games, but I look foward to seeing how they man-handle the monstrous Xbox hardware. Kameo looks sweet.
Still playing it.
I've not beaten it.
The best graphics? I'll have to think more on this.
Best GC soundtrack? I believe so.
Still lovin' it? Oh yeah.
Alright, maybe not the "best ever", but lord is it mighty close. Walking through the path to Cap-Claw with the autumn leaves falling, and hints of sunlight peaking through the tree-tops. Breathtaking!
The water-dungeon, with it pillars made of water was awe-inspiring. The more I think about it, the more I believe this to be the finest looking videogame ever created.
Heh, I wrote my above post as I was in a hurry leaving work (although posting on the message board doesn't exactly imply "work", now does it?) Some things popped in my head later...
First, the environment effects are outstanding. From the leaves you mentioned, to the water, rain and snow (loved the stormy intro sequence), and even the light rays that shine through the portals, the game is a visual treat. Like the way the water reflects back up, making light shimmer in the tunnels as you swim through them. And the stream in ThornTail Hollow... excellent!
I totally agree with you, BEBOPlover... the more I thought about it, the fewer graphic rivals I could come up with. It's certainly the prettiest game I've ever played.
It's not my game of the year (I do think the combat is a bit simplistic), but it's in my personal Top 5, I think. Good stuff.
