Actually, it is. Check the copyright notice down at the bottom of the page. "Ascii Corporation".. and the font in the top header graphic is rather similar to Ascii's normal font. They are obviously doing some cross-promotion -- "play your Ikaruga on custom ASCII pads!"

You're right. Also, I failed to check out the main page.

    http://www.ascii.co.jp

It has a link to the company's IT news section. Thanks for
    correcting me, Lhadatt.

To my knowledge the onl;y member of the Axelay staff at Treasure is Konig Ishida, the game's programmer, and he has not worked RSG or Ika. He was the main Programmer for Light Crusader and McDonald's Treasureland and also worked on Dynamite Headdy, Mischeif Makers, Silpheed, and Guardian Heroes. He also made that spiffy 3D cube logo thing on their old genesis games.

Anyway, useless trivia. My brain's full of it.

  4. I really, really wish I could figure out what other games Hiroshi Iuchi and Atsutomo Nakagawa have worked on, since they appear to be the two driving forces behind Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga.

Iuchi has worked on the vast majority of Treasure's games. S. Murata is just Treasure's stock sound effects guy. The entire Ikaurga team (Iuchi, Nakagawa, Suzuki) were key players in Sin and Punishment, with Nakagawa as the lead programmer, Iuchi as the background artist, and Suzuki as the character designer.

Nakagawa was the main programmer for Sin & Punishment.

I finished the Bucky O Hare arcade rom today (I'm considering resuming work on the credits database at SF Kosmo so I'm beginning to check out old Konami games again) and Hiroshi Iuchi was the lead character designer. He's credited as "Escape Iuchi 5" so if my theory that he's numbering his work (and I'm pretty sure I am correct), this was his last Konami game before switching to Treasure.

  8. Fact #1- I'll be buying Gamecube Ikaruga despite owning the DC one already.

Fact #2- I've only put 3-4 hours into Ikaruga. Sad but true.

I'm putting my Ikaruga antipathy down to my current Dreamcast gaming setup, which due to living circumstances involve a 15" PC monitor on its side in my bedroom, which doesn't make for the nice comfy gaming setup I want when I'm at home. Hopefully the Gamecube, which is comfortably in the living room hooked up to a 30" very nice tv will entice me to play more. Too bad it's my roommate's tv and I can't turn that beast sideways...

    Maybe they won't notice?

The part of the article that got my attention was the pretty clear indication that Treasure wants to do more traditional shooters. I read it as the Ikaruga/RS style, but maybe they meant Sin & Punishment too, which is fine by me.

Mystery I haven't solved due to lack of Ikaruga playing- what on earth do the human character designs have to do with Ikaruga?

That is entirely Nintendo's call. After S&P was the worst selling Nintendo game on the N64 in Japan, they cancelled the US version.

  10. I often hear the argument that 'shooting games don't sell anymore' from developers. But there are still shooting genre fans and I hope to continue providing quality games for them.
WHOO HOO! He said the same thing in an interview with the Edge a few years ago and I've had 100% respect for him ever since. Except for when I was kinda mad when it looked like they wouldn't be bringing it to the DC but otherwise 100% respect all the way. Way to show those stupid devs and mainstream gamers who talk down shooters, Maegawa!
