If Enix isn't getting paid for exclusivity, why doesn't it release DQ8 for both?

If I was Enix, I wouldn't go exclusive for either console without a big fat check.

Square couldn't do the game they wanted to do on the N64, so they jumped ship. I seriously doubt DQ8 will be so demanding of the next gen systems. Also, in that interview the person said they wouldn't force their userbase to buy another system. Well, DQ7 was on the PSX, so is DQ8 going to be a PSX game then?

Enix should release it for all systems to maximize profits if profits are what they're most interested in. At least PS2 and GC.

If Sony was smart they would let it be on the Gamecube. If they were smarter they would get a PS2 port like a year later or whatever, but Gamecube would be best.

The N64 coulnt do FMV remember?Also ther n64 wasnt doing too well in japan back then(I might be wrong on this).
The next DQ game will probably take 4-5 to develop and by that time the ps2 would have a much larger user base than the gamcube.

Hardware-abilities aside, I meant that user-base had nothing to do with Square deciding to develop FF7 on the Playstation. The user base for the PSX at that time was weak and had there not been a Final Fantasy game on the PSX, perhaps the 32/64-bit console wars would've been much closer.

If the N64 had the abilites of the PSX in general the console war would have been closer. Square was a factor, but a lot of devs left Nintendo in the dust for all sorts of reasons. Reasons that no longer exist so it doesn't matter what console the next DQ is on from a technical standpoint. It will do about the same numbers in Japan regardless.

Are you sure about that? I might be wrong but wasnt the n64 being beaten by both the saturn and the psx in japan a few months after the 64's launch?

i dont think so i think the N64 was doing good if memory serves at least here in the US the PSX was selling the worst of the bunch untill FFVII and its none stop blitz of commercials hit

In Japan, yes, the N64 flagged in sales compared to PSX and Saturn, but this was WAY after the news of FF7 coming to Playstation. There should be sales numbers somewhere of how many people in Japan bought a PSX *just* for Final Fantasy 7.
