Thread: sega saturn

  1. I had the bullet problem with Battle Garegga as well. Couldn't tell what could hit me and what couldnt. besides that, i enjoyed it.

I love soukyugurentai. One of my favorite shmups.

Magic Knight Rayearth is fun game. I really dig the genre, so that may be why i enjoyed it so much.

I'd reccomend all 3 of those.

  2. 1. shining the holy ark - I own it, and played it only twice before it refused to boot in my Saturn. I like the occasional dungeon-crawler, and this one semmed to be one of the best there is.

    2. mysteria (Blazing Heroes) - Never played it.

    3. magic knight rayearth - Haven't played it, but it's on my to-get list. I guess my girlfriend has been right all along... I am mentally challenged. =(

    4. battle garegga
    and
    5. soukygurentai - FUCK Raizing's ranking fluctuation system. I hate it, hate it, hate it. I personally think Garegga rocks (except for the ranking crap), but there are many more shooters I'd place above it, like Silvergun or DDP. The invisi-bullets suck, but at least you can change them in the Saturn port. Souky, while pleasing to the eyes and ears (especially that wicked-cool level 3), suffers from a Rayforce/Layer Section/Galactic Attack/Gunlock-esque "useless main gun syndrome" due to the functionality and score multiplier of the NALS web. I generally perfer to wear out the fire button in my shooters, so Souky's gameplay turns me off. Add the ranking bullshit to it, and presto! I had a shooter I never played anymore once I acquired more entertaining pieces of shmup software.

It's all just a matter of taste. My advice... try to play before you buy. Battle Garegga is emulatable, but unfortunately, Souky is not. I wouldn't have spent $60 on Souky if I had been able to test it out first.
