Thread: Let's talk about: Gungrave

  1. This game should not be denied. Yes, it is extremely short, but that still doesn't take away the "kick-assness" of the game. The dude with the arms is pretty easy once you learn how to time your jumps properly. And the replay value is quite high with the ranking system. Definite chech.

  2. Wow, Gungrave love. That makes me a very happy man. I thought I was going to be one of only a couple people digging this after the lukewarm import thoughts.
Stringing combos together takes more strategy, and I'm guessing that's where the replay is.
Yep. That'd be most of it.
Oh yeah, on the first win you unlock action figures of the character models for your viewing pleasure, complete with action figure cardboard packaging card.
Keep trying, I'll bet you don't have all of them.

I will say that I don't like the American boxart as much (the bright colors don't seem to fit), but it's still good. I'm just glad they're using hand-drawn art on it.

Ye of little faith should have believed my review.

  4. This game lets me do what so many 3-D shooters never let me do: run in and blow everything that moves away, with almost no thinking involved.
"If you aren't a bit depressed, then you aren't paying attention to what's going on in the world - Get busy living or get busy dieing."

  5. My thoughts on this are in the "Pile of Hate" thread.

    Carry on...
    Boo, Hiss.

  6. Pheonix, how is there no game in Gungrave?

I would consider shooting every thing untill it dies a game. Repetitive maybe, but its still a game.

Contra was repetitive, but when your doing something that fun, its a ok to be repetitive.

  7. There's plenty of game in there. 100% pure stress relief. I especially enjoyed the train ride.

  8. I'm interested, but there's just too many other games I want to play more. I'll buy it when it comes down.

  9. Contra is repetitive in that it's based on patterns of enemy fire. Skill is the product of this memorization.

GunGrave is repetitive in that all you do is walk and mash the x button like a 14-year-old who just discovered how to jerk it.
Monotony is the product of this. There is no memorization. There is no playing for score (seriously anyway). All it is is a neat looking demo. It feels like they shipped out an alpha copy of something, without most of the game on there.
    Boo, Hiss.

That's one of the things that helped my push away all the negative vibes towards this game a few weeks back. Great review
