Thread: Ikaruga [DC, GC, XBLA, PC]

  1. I know I'm not the only one here who has pulled out Silvergun recently. Even though Ikaruga is not like RS, it only seems right. I also may just pull Axelay out and run through that a few times. Hell, I have been playing GunBird 2 (vert screen, of course) partly in anticipation of Ikaruga.

Oh yeah, Radiant Silvergun ROCKS in surround sound. Try it!

Thanks to syoo of DOA ONLINE for the heads up.

Dreamcast DIRECT (D-DIRECT) is now accepting preorders for
the Dreamcast port of Ikaruga. Those who order from them
early enough will receive a limited-edition postcard to
commemorate the sale. D-DIRECT will sell the game for 6,120
yen, though I'm unaware of any additional costs.

    From project ore news.

Treasure has re-posted a replay of an S++ ranked run of
Ikaruga's Chapter 1. Might be useful for those who have no
connections to anyone's movies and whatnot.

With the hype Ikaruga is garnering I think a few things should be made clear:

    1. It's a shooter and doesn't pretend to be anything else. If you hate shooters don't expect it to change your mind.

    2. The game is 5 levels long. I know once the game is out there is going to be a shitload of people both confused and angry that the game ended too soon. Still the levels look pretty long and it still beats Gigawing 2 in length.

    3. As Johnk said, it's not Radiant Silvergun 2, so don't expect it.

    4. DC is a niche system, still kicking but it's not going to rake in money. Therefore, Ikaruga isn't going to have anime intros or extra stages/enemies, it's mainly a arcade port with a proto mode/illustration gallery, and some secret Treasure hasn't revealed.

This isn't pointed at anyone in particular, I just want people to understand the game isn't the second coming. But that doesn't mean I'm not slobbering at the chance to play it *-neo
Honestly, I already knew/assumed all of that, and that's exactly what I want/expected. I don't think any of that stuff makes it any less of a game, and if that kind of thing really bothers you, it probably wasn't for you anyway.

From what I know hardly anyone has played the game, but if anyone here has then do you agree with the guy in the interview?
That's misleading. I think what he means to say is that it's a simpler mechanic than Radiant. In theory it's a very simple game, however the way it's exploited in the level design is anything but simple. It's not the same kind of open-ended thing that Radiant has, though.

  6. Does anyone know who the composer is?

Apparently Hiroshi Iuchi is doing the music himself.

I would have preferred Hitoshi Sakimoto, but if Mr. Iuchi's musical talents even come close to his programming skill, then it should be a good score indeed.
