Thread: Kingdon Hearts Review

  1. So, did the guy give up too early? Is this the reverse FF8, with the game's true beauty revealing itself after you get through the awful beginning? Does the camera fix itself? Do the battles become deeper than "Hit X as fast as you can"? Are the scavenger hunts for twine and mushrooms replaced by actual puzzles? Do the awkward platforming segments disappear completely? Does the Gummi Ship explode, never requiring you to fly that piece of crap again? Cuz if they fix all that maybe I'll fish my smashed copy out of the trash and try to glue it back together. I'll also agree with you about the guy (and myself) judging it too early. But when you absolutely hate the first quarter of a game I doubt you'd want to play through the remaining 75%. 5 hours is a long time.

    That's about it... the camera becomes alot less of a problem with less platforming elements after Deep Jungle, battles begin to take on more strategy, the scavenger hunts pretty much go away, unfortunately the Gummi ship never goes away, although you do gain a warp function just a little bit after so you only have to deal with the gummi ship segments when you go to a new area. Plus the story starts to get really good around right after agrabah.

    Trust me, the end boss battle alone makes all the crap you have to deal with at the beginnning worth it.

  5. Bleh. This is the first game in a long time that made me break a joypad (Cerebus). (Amazing how well the Dual Shock stood up to the hard oak coffee table it hit..but I digress...) The story really interested me, but after playing through to Agrabah(which is where my wife totally took over) and finally getting fed up with the camera too much to play, and reading about the bitch that is Ursula, I caved. I'm pretty much swearing off anything that has 3D platforming elements. So no Sly Cooper, SMS, SFA, or KH for me.
    Never under any circumstance scrutinize the mastication orifice of a gratuitous herbivorous quadruped.
