Thread: Deyellowing Plastic - Mother $&#ucking Science!

  1. PROTIP: If the yellowing isn't intrinsic to the plastic itself (so like, yellowing where your palms rest on a white laptop, or nicotine film, not the SNES issue), this is all you need:

  2. I just bought an HSS-0130 and it has a bit of yellowing on a couple sides. If it's still there after I wash it (and magic eraser it, I suppose), I'm going to mix up a batch of this RetroBright gel stuff and see what happens. I'll post a before and after.

  3. Magic erasers will scratch the shine off of any glossy plastics, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you should bear that in mind.

  4. Hmm. I'll test it on some other glossy plastic I don't care about first. Thanks.

  5. Why are the before and after different parts??

  7. Magic eraser didn't do anything. First step was taking this thing apart and washing it carefully (removing all the retarded stickers etc.). These are the before pictures. You can see the yellowing on the right and left sides mostly.

Once we get a sunny day I'm going to mix up some Retrobright gel, paint it on and leave it outside for a day. Also need to see if I can do anything about the chip/dent that was "repaired" on the right front corner.
