Feature ECC4: Impromptu ECC4 Log 06/10/99
Brief report of early activities before the ECC4 event...

By now, many of you have read the ECC4 tournament report, we have seen the winners, and the losers, and the players that weren't even sure why they came. In all seriousness, to add some light humor to a otherwise enlightening time which 'could have' been stressful. The following was a small log I made during the two day event. In addition, to the right are the pics which we promised would be up upon their delivery to TNL. Any members who attended the event and would like to express any feedback is welcomed to post in our forum!

Saturday, Day One - The Adventure Begins...

6:50am

Surely the hardest part of the tournament for me was just getting up (yawns)! For some reason though, I didn't get as much sleep as the rest of my friends which would be going with me to the event. Well, it didn't matter, all I was concerned with was to have fun, ashame no E3 Models would be there. Packing up my needed essentials (darn, no Oscar Meyer snack treats today?) I got prepared while jiggying around the room to Will's "Wild Wild West" theme song, (hey, I wanted some motivational music, and it's not like I was going to be playing some game music to do it!) ^_^

7:15-8:20 Blah, travel time...

Ah...the long one hour ride in which I trek to Chinatown Fair arcade each and every week (need to get a travel agent). Spent most of the ride getting a few winks and envisioning what ECC4 would be like upon arrival. Finally after the perilous (ok, it's not that bad) walk through Bayard and Mott, I reach CF. Alex K, Henry Cen, Eddie (Satan man...the horns!) Lee, Amir, Charlie and John Gordon are already there. Alex had his car, which meant that we'd have a ride there. Marcus Valez arrives, eager and ready for his first national tournamet. We all exchange the pleasantries and Charlie decides to snap the first ECC4 pic to start the weekend. Then, it's off for us to get a lil' grub (cuz I was definitely starved!). I inform Alex that we were expecting yet another player, Trevor Vanterpool.

8:45-Departure

Team CF heads off to one of the local Chinatown diners, (after a small discussion as to where exactly we'd be eating). ^_^ Amir (who loves saying how much he "sux"&, Henry, Eddie, and Charlie sit at one table while Marcus, John, and Trevor (who arrives a bit shortly to the diner) sit at an adjacent table. Ordering a stack of pancakes with susage, I start recording the event which I am trying to remember what it's...um...called...(memory blanks out!) ^_^

Departure-Small Pit Stop (9:30?)

Hmm, my memory came back...ECC4, that's the place we're going to. The entire CF team with exception to Marcus and Trevor take the New Jersey transit head off in Alex's van to pick up, another player? Heh, we end up picking up Victor (Shutup! - personal CF joke. -ed) After driving around a few spots which almost had me forget certain locations of New York. We arrive at Victor's domain. He doesn't appear right away, so we end up literally shouting out his name, and sticking in a few jokes for good measure. Finally, he appears with a major grin on his face. Henry and Eddie slide over to make room for the 2i Tyrant! Then, it's time to get back on the Lincoln tunnel for our main destination.

Arrival at the Break (11:39?)

Arriving in Dunnellen, NJ - home of 8 on the Break, we drive by Todd Dwyer and even Allan "Kei-ism" Chow aka (cue the shouts) East Coast Gief (sorry Kei, had to say it! ^_^ We make our parking stop nearby the arcade (clear all moorings!) Once we exit the car, we're greeted to the bright sun beaming down on all of us. Damn, wish we had some large buildings at this point. A few of us take a peek through the Break's windows and find the the site is not open yet. Turns out, that we are an hour early. We decide to kill some time in the botique restaurant next door.

11:50 Break next door Sundae's Brew

Securing some shelter from the unforgiving sun rays outside waiting to torture us with its energy, we enjoy the cool sanctuary in Sundae's Brew (which for some reason at first I thought was called...n/m). Charlie snaps a few more pics of us (some without the awareness of the individual having their picture taken...like me) ^^ A few of us purchase a beverage and take a seat in the chairs that are nicely laid out in the store. There were some other players there (not sure if I met them later on though). We never introuduced ourselves, but oh well, guess that's someone's lost there! ^_^

Meeting new players

11:55 Decided to write up a few notes (such as this one). David Boudreau, one of the Boston players arrives at 11:57. We greet him and return back to our state of...err, idling!

12:10-1:00 While Amir, Henry, myself, and Charlie play Scrabble; Victor plays Eddie in chess. I sign Marcus' copy of Game Fan. The rest of Team CF walk around Sundae's Brew trying to keep themselves occupied.

To be continued...(Darn, never did get around to this finishing it...hehe!)
