To proclaim to be the racing enthusiast would certainly be within merit. It's true that long since the days or Rad Racer, Mach Rider, and RC Pro Am - an era where it didn't matter how much you stepped on the gas, the unforgiving turns that stood before you, and then some. Yes, those were the days I could truly say that I was a force to be reckoned with.

Of course, it's the year 2000 and those days are long gone! Yes, thanks to the realistic finesse I witnessed last month at the Codemasters unveiling of Colin McRae Rally 2.0, I was slapped back into reality (so to speak). However, I have never been to run from a challenge and I certainly found this game to be right on track. To those unfamiliar with the franchise, Colin McRae Rally 2.0 is the sequel to the world's best selling racing simulation - Colin McRae Rally. Now PlayStation owners can engage the ultimate rough and raucous rally racing right in their own home (lousy editor-in-chief drivers not included).

Set your car to...whoa, slow down!

You'll discover that reaching unbelievable speeds and braving unpredictable courses are the main attractions of rally racing. the race is against the clock and it happens over the most rugged of terrains, such as ice, or gravel and mud, all around the world. Featuring Scottish-born racer Colin McRae's Ford Focus, among 6 other cars, the high-end rally driving action and the unparalleled car handling takes gamers through exotic locations such as Egypt, Thailand and Africa. For those who would prefer to escape the binds of simulated elements can choose to play the game's wild action arcade mode.

Colin McRae Rally 2.0 offers players five dynamic camera angels to view the action from, including Codemaster's trademark Head Cam view which with its constant jostling (something I felt in the huge Focus that was the attraction at the booth...), simulates the relentless road's surface impact of the car with dramatic effect.

In writing these review, it serves only to remind me how I need to come to terms with my racing experience. I shall conquer those treacherous tracks and show them who's boss! Colin McRae Rally 2.0 is slated for release during the holiday 2000 season with a suggested retail price of $39.99. Watch for continued Codemasters previews coming up in the near future!
